Leinster/Waterlemon Bay

After hearing that it had the best snorkeling on St. John, we decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed. It's a hike over a rocky path, there's really no beach - and literally minimal sand, but once in the water, the snorkeling is fabulous. We saw schools of blue tang, Sargent majors, grunts, etc. Not just 10 or 15 - but 60 to 100. I've never seen so many! We saw a rather large (IMHO) barracuda. The coral was bright and healthy - I perhaps this beach doesn't get many tourists as it's not an easy place to reach - nor does it have easy water access. But it you want to see incredible underwater scenery - you want to go to Leinster Bay. Then drive over to Coral Bay for pizza at the Donkey Diner - or a great burger at Skinny Legs. It's a perfect Island day.

WaterLEMON cove (not to be read as watermelon even though your mind goes there!) Great place to go snorkeling, great water with lots of different sea urchins, rays, fish, turtles, and other aquatic life. A little bit of a hike but worth it, also annaberg sugar plantation is right there and then you can walk up the little trail past waterlemon to an amazing view of the islands!

This was our favorite beach to snorkel we swam with the gentle sea turtles and watched as schools of fish nippled at the abundant supply of food. The beach was really rocky but there were a couple of spots to put your towels down. Go early to get a spot on the sand.
