Its wagapalooza time again!! For those who have not
previously attended, it’s a wacky and fun day with pets and their
owners and friends.

Join the fun on Sunday June 13th for the 4th annual Wagapalooza
Dog Show fundraiser at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay, St. John. The
event includes booths featuring animal related items, best trick,
best costume, dog and owner look alike contest, photo contest,
raffles, food, drinks and lots of fun. The event benefits the
Animal Care Center of St. John.
“The success of the Center has come from our generous community
who recognizes the need for this most necessary community
service,” commented Betty Gerhardt, President of the Center’s
Board. “We have evolved into the real shelter facility we’ve been
dreaming about for many years, thanks to the community. It’s a
win-win situation for our entire community and especially for the
animals.” The Center is completely supported by community
donations.
What is Wagapalooza?
Wagapalooza is the brain child of Jen Donnelly of Jolly
Dogs in Coral Bay who created the event four years ago as a
fundraiser for the Animal Care Center of St. John. When Jen was
ready to hand over the reigns, she did so to the Center who
continued the annual event.
Since the first wagapalooza in 2000 the number of supporters and
attendees has almost doubled. Last years event was attended by
about 500 people with 100 dogs registered! Pet owners, supporters
and folks who just want to enjoy the day attend; there is food,
drinks and music!!
While the event traditionally has been just about dogs this year the wagaphoto contest includes photos of any pets; fish, cats, birds, dogs.
Entries and Registration:
Dogs are asked to encourage their owners to register in advance
at The Animal Care Center, both Connections Offices, St. John
Hardware and Scandic Services in Mongoose Junction. Pre-show
registration is $25 until the day of the event, when the fee will
be $35. Registration fees are waived for children under 12 years
of age who show their dog.
Entries can be in more than one category, including: “Best in
Costume,” “Dog/Owner Look Alike,” and “Best Trick”. “Best of
Show” will be awarded to the overall coolest dog on our planet
St. John.
New this year is the Wagaphoto Contest - enter your favorite
(amateur) photo with your pet (not just pooches!) that best fits
this year’s theme of “Who Owns Who?” Pets and their human buddies
need not be present at the event to win. Photos submitted will be
voted on at the event.
Animal lovers are also encouraged to volunteer for various
functions and assistance prior to and on the show day. For more
