Preference? Cinnamon Bay, Rhymers, or Maho?
November 15, 2009 03:59PM
Well, the airline tickets are purchased! Time to figure out where I am going to stay happy I wil be down 01/20 - 01/27

Price is a primary consideration for me. I prefer to spend money on daysails, activities, etc... rather than lodging. Don't need anything special, but was wondering if anyone had good/bad experiences with:

Rhymers on Tortola
Cinnamon Bay campground (cottage)
Maho Bay campground (tent cottage)
Any other fun inexpensive place...

I've been down a handful of times, but have always stayed on St. Thomas. Want to try something different this time. Appreciate all of your replies!

-Matt

Look into BotanicalVillas.com which is a new camping experience in ST John close to Peter Bay.
I have stayed at all 3 of those over the years - Maho would be my 1st choice then Cinnamon, then Rhymers[If You mean their beach hotel] in Tortola unless I was surfing then Tortola 1st choice.
Because Maho will soon only be a memory maybe going there would be a good experience to have this year.

We've stayed only at Maho/Concordia (other side of island) several times and we prefer it over Cinammon Bay due to the quality of the tent cabins, the views, the privacy (either more trees or more widely spaced cabins) but others say great things about Cinammon Bay too. I have no idea what Rhymers is to compare, sorry! My concern for you would be money- I'm reading that people are being quoted $180 plus a night to stay at Concordia, the sister camp to Maho and I assume its because you'll be there in high season. We're going in 3 weekscool and are paying only $105 per night for a premium eco tent at Concordia. I guess what I'm saying is that you may have to let price be your guide- maybe Cinammon will be cheaper or Maho might be cheaper than Concordia. Are you sure there are open reservations at these three locations? Are you a seasoned camper? Cinammon and Maho/Concordia offer slightly upscale camping but these aren't hotels so hopefully you are thinking of this when you say you don't need anything special.
Either this message board or the Trip Advisor have had some negative things to say about the Botanical Villas but they are much cheaper. I haven't seen them but from what I've read they are definitely for those who really rough it.
You will LOVE STJ!! We talk about it almost daily, all the time, trip or no trip planned.
