GRAND BEACH PALACE RESORT IN ST. THOMAS??? Is this under a new name and ownership?? I can't find it anywhere and I loved the location when I stayed in the past. I am looking for accommodations for end of June.

In the 1980's Pineapple Beach was razed and the Virgin Grand built there - after a few changes today it is closed and shuttered. Grand Palazzo was close to the original name of what is now the Ritz Carlton Property.

Grand Beach Palace Resort was the last incarnation of the resort formerly known as the Virgin Grand which then became Stouffer's Grand Beach, then Renaissance Grand Beach. The property has been vacant for several years and is now owned by the Wyndham Group which apparently plans to eventually redo the whole place as a timeshare resort. Hope springs eternal...

You might want to take a look at the Wyndham Sugar Bay resort if you're looking for a hotel in the same general area - or the Ritz which is also on the East end. Happy researching!

I was curious. Has there been any activity on this property. It's been many years since my wife and I honeymooned at the old Stouffer's/Renaissance Grand. Our kids are now traveling age (7, 6 and 5) and last year we went to Atlantis. This year we were thinking of traveling to VI. Any advice you can share would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's still empty and still the word is that Wyndham will refurbish it and turn it into a timeshare resort. Time frame unknown. Since the last postings on this thread, Wyndham has dropped its affiliation with Sugar Bay.

If I were you I'd rent a condo. Check out [www.vrbo.com] for listings at Sapphire, Crystal Cove and Elysian (in order of my preference!) Also take a look at Secret Harbour - their owners don't use VRBO but the resort management takes care of the rentals. It's great to have your own kitchen, particularly with children in tow, as you can save a lot of $$s by making your own breakfasts, packed lunches and even dinners. All the locations listed are on the East end of St Thomas (where the old Renaissance is located) where, as I'm sure you remember, the best STT beaches are located. Red Hook is just a short drive away with all its bars and restaurants (many more since you were here!) and the Red Hook ferry terminal now sports a brand new look which you won't recognize!

You've certainly been busy since your honeymoon here so it's definitely time to come back with your brood!

Thank you so much for all the info. Going to talk it over with my family this weekend. See if we can make it late May or early June.

Thanks again.

Try the Point Pleasant Resort, too. 340-775-7200

Also......Word has it that the Wyndham will start work in 2 months.

Thanks everyone. I hope it's true, I'd love to either stay there, or buy a piece of the new place. I live in Texas and id love to be a fixture there.
