We are traveling to St Thomas in June with our 3 daughters. We want to take a daysail to BVI & the baths...any recommendations for the best way to visit the Baths? Ferry? Daysail? We don't want to break the bank, but realize it's going to cost alot and know it will be worth our money!! Thanks!
Stormy Petrel, Pirates Penny and Breakaway and some others all visit a varied itinerary of BVI's and include Virgin Gorda and the Baths - they are multi-passenger power vessels, do a fine job but your time at each individual destination is somewhat limited - with 5 passengers you might want to consider chartering a private vessel with a Captain - there are quite a few very good comfortable options - your trip will be destination and timing personalized, much different and very comparable in cost once you total up the per person cost, customs fees, gratuities and lunch purchase of a multi passenger vessel.
You will not be able to do a day sail to the BVI (to far). You will have to do a power boat. Most Day Sails to the BVIs generally go to the Jost Van Dyke area since it is much closer. Pirates Paradise has two nice boats that can go to the Baths......a fun Day sail is the Kekoa out of St John.
I'd definitely take a look at the ferry (schedule is top right under "Quick Links" if you're not so concerned with making a stop or two on the way for snorkeling. You'll see just the same as you'll see from a private charter and will have plenty of time to spend on VG and at the Baths (one of the very few complaints with a charter is the lack of time spent on VG itself) . If you wanted to see more of the BVI you could take another ferry another day - to Jost maybe. So much to see and so little time!
We booked a day-sail on Breakaway last week, and it was a great trip! It leaves from the Sapphire Marina, and the crew was great. If you book online, they offer a 10% discount, and an additional $5 off if you pay in cash. You meet at the marina at 7 AM, and return around 4:30. It was a perfect day!
We weren't going to go to the BVI because of the cost. It is worth EVERY PENNY! Don't pass up the opportunity to see the beautiful BVI - just don't forget your passports!
When are you going? We will be there June 3-8 and are experiencing the same dilemma however we are traveling with our 3 month old. We would like to share a power boat tour of the B.V.I. and spend time at the baths. But we don't know anyone who will be there (obviously). The ferry route sounds time consuming and it seems like we would only see one BVI each day right? If someone will be there the same time as us and wants to share the cost of a private charter please let me know. Thx.
Oh bummer. We are there June 10-15 so we will just miss you this wouldve been a good option.
My husband and I are travelling to St Thomas June 7-12 and we wanted to do a Day Trip to BVI. I haven't booked anything yet as we thought we would do a day sail to St. John first and see how we liked it. We would be interested in pairing up with you for the private charter, just curious as to how much it would cost and which day you were planning. This is our first trip ever to the area and we want to see and do as much as possible. Thanks!
