Here's a list of my suggestions of must see places to see and eat.
Best Beaches
1.Trunk Bay St Johns(snorkeling heaven)
2. Megan's Bay St.Thomas(Public beach, very crowded when cruise ships arrive, $4/person entry fee, beautiful view)
3. Cinamon Bay St.Johns(breathtaking view, watch out for the stingray they swim close to shore and they blend with the sand)
4. Cokie Beach St.Thomas(Mostly locals hang there, very laid back beach, great snorkeling)
5. Hawkness Beach StJohns(good snorkeling)
Best Places to Eat
1. Blue Orchid_ It's a bit pricey, but the food is delicious. Steak melts in your mouth. It has a Nature Reserve with birds on the property and an observation deck with a a nice view of Megans Bay. Also there's a Zip Line course close too.
2. Molly Malone's @Red Hook_Great for breakfast. Gotta try the stuffed pancakes, hmmmmmmmmm good!!!!
3. Cuzins @Charlotte Amalie_ Really good Caribean food. Curry Chicken is mouth watering.
4. Iggies is a very cool laid back bar/grill on the beach. Get there during sunset to hear live music and enjoy the sound of the ocean as you eat and drink the night away. No complaints on the food.
5. Woody's @St.Johns_ I would've listed it 2nd, but its on St.John's and the food is American. I can tell you this, the food was great. They have the best chicken wings and chicken fingers I've had in a long time. I'm from Atlanta so I know wings. Get there for happy hour $2 beer and well. I hear Kenny Chesney hangs out there. The waitresses are really nice too.
6. Ideal Rotti_great stuffed beef rotti
7. Trenchtown @Charotte Amalie_foods is OK
8. Victors New Hideaway_avoid at all cost. Very expensive!!! Food was OK. It's not easy to find(near the airport on the top of a hill overlooking the shipyards).
Grocery shopping is expensive. SaveAlot was the cheapest. Still pricey. Compared to the mainland, the groceries will cost you the most on this trip. I suggest you eat out, it's going to cost about the same. They do have McDonalds if you have kids.
To get to St.Johns
Take the Ferry out of Red Hook. $50 rt w/car. You can hang out there all day if you have a rental car. Last Ferry leaves StJohns at 8pm. Tortola is was nice, but the beaches aren't as nice as St.Johns or St.Thomas.
Charlotte Amalie is where you'll find nice souveniers and jewelry. The jewelry and alcohol is cheaper at the grocery and Charlotte Amalie!!!
Do not rent a car from Thrifty/Dollar!!!! It's cheaper, but you get what you pay for.
Remember it is St John not St Johns
Glad you had a great time
Pia

Pia, You're welcome
Brewers and Cane Garden beaches were both nice. @Pia thanks for the spell check.
LOL!
you don't know until you know.
a long, long time ago, st. john (as we now call it) was "st. john's island" in the danish west indies. somehow i believe people continue to call it that, not as simply "st. john's", but as "st. john's (island)"...
while researching some information on the danish transfer, i came across many references to both "st. john" as noted in the organic act, and "st. john's island" or "st. john's", or "st. johns", depending. and st. croix was called "santa cruz", while st. thomas was called "st. thomas island".
well at least i know, it came from someplace... it will pluck my nerves no more!
takes awhile for the image to load, so here is the page to a map i found online: [www.probertencyclopaedia.com]
