Cost of Electricity

July 27, 2016 11:10PM

I have been invited to spend two weeks in St. Croix with friends. I stay in their downstairs apartment which has a portable air conditioning unit. How much would it add to their electrical bill if I used it for two weeks? Do you know how much it would increase the electric bill if I only used it at night? I need air conditioning for my breathing problems, including a Cpap. Any guesstimate would help. Thanks,

Well if I remember correctly the cost of a kW hour is 50 cents per roughly that is typical 5x as much as a major city in the us, use ax only at night and fans to circulate air to reduce the enegy needed from the Ac unit

Very old rates. Now down to 29.7 kWh.

Offer them $100 towards electricity.
The AC won't be the only thing using electricity.
The refrigerator, stove (unless propane), the water heater, water pump, lights, TV, phone charger and ceiling fans, etc., all contribute to the costs. Even at 29¢ per kilowatt hour, it adds up pretty fast and even just using the AC at night will bump the bill up.

Thank you, Alana33. They would never say I couldn't use it, I just don't want to cost them so much when I visit. They are so generous already. I found two pieces of Chaney and a lot of sea glass when I was there three years ago! Thanks again for responding.
