Buying new furniture in STT

February 21, 2017 04:34PM

I know a lot of people buy things via craig's list, but when you want to buy new bedroom and living room furniture, where do you choose to go in St Thomas? Has anyone had any luck buying from an on line place like Wayfair? Seems like that might be a good option if they ship for free. Thanks in advance.

dd: You should ask this on the relocation board. Not sure how many visitors have need of new furniture. LOL

True enough, but there are plenty of locals and people on this board who could offer their opinions/help.

Don't think Wayfair ships for free except to a stateside freight forwarder. I stay away from Arab owned furniture stores due to my previous experiences with different stores. You can check the Daily News and Island Trader for furniture/moving sales. Also there are a few sites on Facebook on things for sale in STT.

Silk Greenery has nice furniture but very expensive.
I've heard Carlos Furniture in the Tutu Park Mall is good but have never purchased from them.

Fly to PR, spend a few days, ship to VI.
Don't buy anything that's not solid wood or rattan.
Composite material, press-board won't last.

Alana,
Thanks for the feedback. It is much appreciated. I saw on the board that you moved to FL. I'll bet you are enjoying the electric/water/sewer bills. It must feel like it's almost free! Still, nothing like the views on St Thomas!
I had a friend that lives here also say that many of her friends shopped in South Carolina (furniture is very cheap there) and had it shipped from there. Lots of options!

So far, so good.

Can't say I like paying for water and septic since I never did in the VI but living there so many decades definitely taught me about being conservative in water and electrical usage.
It's nice to have consistent power, lower prices and fresh produce like strawberries @ $3.98 for 2 lbs. that's not covered in mold the day after purchasing.

One definitely can't beat the gorgeous ocean views in the Caribbean but it's nice to drive on smooth roads in a clean environment.

Good luck with your furniture shopping.
BTW, the Norma H is good to use if you buy in PR and ship ocean freight to STT. Reasonably priced.
