Locals here could absolutely be more friendly-yipes!

May 06, 2017 12:24PM

I saved for a while to come down here for just a few days. The ocean and the beach are EXACTLY like the pictures I saw-just gorgeous. But I've been here for 48 hours now and have been lectured by a local three times already. Really bossy and in my face! "Hey! they told you to wait here! You need to listen!" What? Dude, I'm not some ultra-rich american jerk who looks at locals like attractions. And I didn't scrimp and save to come down here and be treated like a recalcitrant child! I live in a tourist town myself (a ski town) so I know about tourists' sometimes ridiculous requests. Those tourist allow me to live my dream life in the mountains! I know that! Not a really pleasing thought, true. But reality baby!

The town of Charlotte Amalie was really charming, in a 99th and Kinsman, East Cleveland kind of way. There are just so many places to get your cash checked, or receive hard guy stares from men, woman, and children! And if liquor stores where you want to buy lottery tickets, are your thing? Then enjoy the many fine amenities this place has! happy I have been looking forward to this trip for SO LONG. I'm staying on the beach for the rest of my time here and then getting my ass back to Summit County, Colorado. Peace the f*&&^% OUT Virgin Islands!

The local locals, as in not the ones coming in from the continental US and operating a business but the true natives of the island are super-rude in St. Thomas. In St. John's they are very nice. Went to a laundromat in Cruz Bay and the ladies there were friendly and helpful.

Good by and I hope you don't come back, it seems your attitude wasn't great either. Just because a place is touristy, don't mean every one there is a butt kisser just because you had visions of grander only to realize once you peel back those layers of that onion, you will cry like any other onion.

St. Thomas rude awakening

August 03, 2017 11:16PM

My family and I just returned from vacation in St. Thomas. The locals are Extremely Rude! At first we thought we were overreacting, until we started hearing from others that were also experiencing the same issues. The employees at the ferry yell and degrade you. The hostess and gift shop employees just roll their eyes when you approach. The beaches are amazing, however I would never recommend anyone waste their money here. We spent a day in St. John and Everyone was pleasant and it was much nicer.

I've been going to the islands 2ce a year for over 10 years. In all that time I've only run into 4 people I'd classify as rude; a dollar bus driver, a Kmart employee and 2 Budget rental ladies. This is about the same amount I run into at home in Illinois. Many times I've been pleasantly surprised by how friendly and helpful the locals are. I find for the most part you get what you give. I always give a greeting before launching into my question or request for assistance. I suspect the people that have this complaint treat the islanders like servants and have a superior attitude when dealing with the locals. These tourists are probably better off going to Mexico where the locals are used to visitors acting like jerks.

Life is a beach and I'm glad I've got mine.
