He could and he did!
This is definitely historical. Congrats to our black community! It is no longer a dream......
Obama was not only supported by blacks, but whites as well. I hope this can change the face of racism BOTH ways!

Obama is the choice of the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not just the Black, the Whites, the Hispanic people. The voting majority has spoken and chosen our leader. I can certainly understand the importance of this historical event to all Black people but I think it's so important that he not be thought of as the "Black's President". He is the President, support ed by the majority of Americans, who happens to be Black. Just my two cents.

Greetings!
Want to thank everyone who voted. I woke up excited to get started on a new future. Eyes wide open to the challenge ahead, heart full of pride for Americans everywhere. No excuses, no looking back.
Gee, wish I could be there in the islands with a bushwacker in hand, feet in the sand--I'll celebrate anyway.
Best wishes to you all.

Not, yes, he did. But yes, we did. Barack won because he mobilized an amazing amount of people to work together tp bring about change in America. And I hope we can continue on with him during this journey over the next four (maybe eight) years. We'll need to in order for change to occur.

I do believe this is a momentous occasion for all Americans and he will be the President of each and every one of us. But, I cannot explain the sheer joy and pride I felt in my country last night as I watched African American men and women react to this news. It has been a very long time coming, but I'm hoping this will truly be a way to heal the hurt caused by the sins of our fathers (or probably great, great, great grandfathers, but you know what I mean).

There's a lot of talk about how he's black. Folks, he is half-white, half-black. He's as much European as he is African. 50% of the genetics that make up Obama came from a Caucasian. He was mostly raise by the white half of his family.

It is a big step for the African American community. But let's not get caught up in the hype. AMERICANS elected him. And he embodies the ethnic diversity of our melting pot.

I know I can't believe it, it's amazing, incredible. A junior senator with only 176 days days of senate experience, a member of a church for 22 years that preaches rac**m and anti-se#itism, is a known collaborator with American te**orists, has a so*ialist economic and health care plan is now the president of the most powerful country in the world. It is a fact that with his personal associations and questionable citizenship that he could not even get level 1 FBI clearance. He's not even qualified to be the presidents bodyguard let alone the president. It appears color was more important than experience in this election. Makes me want to drink too...Heavily!!!

I agree - Barack Obama represents all of America. Without super support from all groups in many combinations, he would not have made it through.

And now that I have tried outsourcing my job to another country where they could get 5 peeps for the cost of me, watching the educators sweating through "No Child Left Behind", the debacle in Iraq that started with a lie (while Bush's pals - cough! Halliburton - cough! benefited), what appeared to be a stolen election (nice that geedubya has family and friends in high places in Florida), deregulation to the point where anyone can get away with anything as long as the stockholders are happy... I had to get over it while girding my loins and my wallet for the fracas of the past four (or eight) years... I think it's time that others be mature and recognize that we live in a democratic republic, where the people's collective voice should be respected.

You cannot always be on the winning side. These things happen, my brother.

best to you,
anita.

You know Islander this thread has nothing to do with travel in the USVI

Would you be so kind to move it to the relocation page
Obama is moving from Chicago to DC
Maybe someone could recommend a vet for his new dog.

If you want to become active in a political fray - here is a page I enjoy with international membership: Puddle Pirates

You must join to enter into the political current events page.
Warning - not for the weak of heart or those who demand political correctness

I enjoy VINOW because it is about people who have a passion for the USVI

I am excited for the future and I understand how important the election of Obama is to many. It is an exciting time – but airfares to STT or STX remain the same.

Islander is free to close this thread; I prefaced the title with an "OT" which means "Off-Topic", a standard in newsgroup and BBS/Forums. It warns people that the comments are not going to pertain to the usual expected conversation while acknowledging that the participants may wish to share in a general-interest thread.

The "OT" warns those who are not interested, to leave that thread alone and it will die a natural death. I provide this info in case some didn't know, not assuming that you do not TomB

Very interesting how politics divides. My grandmother always said not to discuss your religion or politics unless you wanted an argument. I appears to be true here as well. Lets just drop it OK? Group hug and all is well silly smiley

Frankly, I have been waiting to see how Virgin Islanders reacted. They don't get to vote, but many of them seem pretty excited to finally have a president who looks like them. It's obviously an issue, or it wouldn't have been on the front page of today's Tradewinds. I do go to STJ for vacation, but I do take an interest in local affairs and appreciate places like this where I can interact with the local people and hear their opinions.

The thread header was prefaced with OT and was pretty self-explantory. Those who would like to only engage in travel-related discussions or prefer not to discuss their politics in public were more than welcome to just ignore. There are lots of things I ignore here because they either don't interest me or I have nothing to contribute.

Of course, Islander gets to make the last call.

Rickyroma, I liked your opinions better when you were a lurker. Do you think your post makes a contribution to the forum? What kind of person breaks their silence to voice that sort of evil and invective-it was just rejected by the American voters? Should anyone on this forum feel the need to dwell on this hate mongering, we can always turn on conservative talk radio-a much better place for your thoughts than here.

How did you find time to "contribute" here? Commercial on Rush or Hannity?

Ever think of changing your name to Foula?

I am with you Diana. Does anyone really believe the people on this board was aware that Obama is now the President-elect?

truth and facts=evil and hate mongering. Interesting aspect! Never looked at it that way. So that means Truth/facts were rejected by by the American voter. Fantastic! You understand my point. It's crazy that when someone doesn't agree with the truth, the person who spoke the truth is considered evil, or a hate monger. Oh lets not forget a "lurker". Sounds like someones been watching too much MSNBC.....

I was not trying to get snippy with A. Davis on my initial post
Did not know what OT - meant
She called it into play in the title and that is cool

I do think there are better boards to discuss this - like the one I referenced above

I did a write in because I would not vote for either one of them - but I am excited that soooooo many people are excited
Here again why I did what I did is for another board.

BO won almost every demographic you could up with so it appears he was the right man for the job.

So we have President - Lets talk about Blue Water.

cool
