Have seen rental agencies and seems that $90 is the cheapest rate for a rental for a vehicle that will hold 6. We can't take our van from STT because we have rented from Hertz and I read that it is not allowed. So, if anyone knows of a good place to rent from within walking distance from Cruz Bay, please let us know! We arrive the first of Sept! Thanks!!! Grazi! Appreciate it!8-)

Switch car rental agencies and rent from someone who allows you to take vehicle to STJ.
Are you going for the day or staying there?

Alana, We want to maximize our time(just a day trip) on St. John so prefer to take passenger ferry over......won't have to leave til much later that evening. Last car ferry leaves Cruz at 6pm. Thanks, Anita! Did I mention you look like a really good friend I have on the mainland. Lovely lady!:-)

Most Car rental places close at 5pm. I am not sure there are any that will let you return it without someone there to inspect it.

i am certain they all close at 5pm... perhaps you would consider taking a guided tour instead of renting a car. http://www.varlack-ventures.com/vvfiles/3_island-tours.htm - you could hire a private service, but this link goes to varlack ventures, one of the car rental agencies there... I looked at the site. No info on cost. Tried to email, but the email failed. I will try to call tomorrow. Thanks, Anita!

kdskis 2, when will you be on island? I have a friend who is a tourguide who may be able to help you out if he's going to be there.

This is what you do:
pack cooler with snack and drinks
pack beach bag with "toys" and a simple change of cloths
take ferry to Cruz bay.
rent SUV for 6
explore island,
take tons of photos
hit a bunch of beaches, suggestions availbale upon request
take a short hike thru the ruins across from Cin bay
end your beach day at either Cin bay or Trunk.
Rinse off in the cold showers
Change
Return car to Cruz bay
Happy hour or shopping
Dinner
evening ferry back to STT
