I personally like the bar it is a sort of local hangout. The food is good and they do draw alot of people when they have bands playing. as far as it's location, maybe a local could help you with directions to it. It's not the easiest place to find and I don't know the names of the roads, only how to get there on instinct.

We were just there and although we only shared the garlic shrimp (excellent by the way) with great fresh bread to soak up all that garlic juice, we saw other peoples meals coming out and they looked great. Nice, laid back, right on the water place.

Getting there is really hard! Maybe you may want to try to find it during the day so you can make it back. This was the first time (5 times) that we found it on the first try.

Just when you think you're lost, you find it!

Go towards The Ritz, make left at Montessori School, follow until the end. You are better off with a four wheel drive vehicle (dirt road).

From Red Hook traveling East. As the road curves to the right just past the local high school, turn left. It's a short steep hill right by the sign to the National Park dock. Turn left and you're on the Nazareth Road. First left and there will be a small sign saying "Latitude 18." Continue on. The general paving changes. The homeowners in the area are paving the road as finances permit but you need to be careful as a paved strip can turn into a dirt strip and then back onto a paved strip. You'll be going 5-10 MPH anyway so no worries.

Keep a lookout for a left turn where there's a small sign on a tree saying "Latitude 18." CynthiaD's directions are incorrect because if you miss that sign and continue straight you'll be in a residential area. Take that left. From then on the road isn't paved and is a bit rocky in parts Best to take a day trip first to get your bearings. However, you're on island time so no worries and, again, you're driving at this point less than 5MPH. And you don't need 4WD to get there! In a mere island heartbeat you'll find yourself at Latitude 18 where the ambiance is delightful, the food is always good and the music can range from the incredibly brilliant to totally excruciating!

As EE mentions though, Latitude IS right across from the Red Hook ferry terminal so if you find a good buddy with a dinghy and can hitch a ride you're all set! with no worries about getting there by road. Cheers!

WE live here. Latitude 18 is a landmark here. IT IS NOT FANCY! The road is very bad but if you take your time and drive around the pot holes you can get there. We know the owners VERY WELL. They will do there best to make your expierence as good as possible. If you go in the winter then have a person called the Fiddler. He is very worth the trip. He combines his playing the fiddle, a back ground band and sings some local songs that are excellent.

Have not been in a couple years, but it used to have the best open mic night I have ever been to.
Some of the tourist vistiting are pretty damn good musicians and sometimes the local bands show up and jam.
Worth the ride down that road!

We had a great time there with friends last July. The food was great and the show was even better. Kenny Floyd put on a great show. Hope he returns to the islands. He does have a MySpace page Kenny Floyd

On our last trip to STT, about a year ago, open mic night at Latitude 18 was one of the high lights of the trip. Don't miss it if you have a chance to go.

I must say, I have never had a problem finding or getting to Latitude 18. Sure the road is a little rough but just take your time and it's no problem. The Fiddler billd is referring to is Dick Solberg and his Sun Mountain Band. Awesome light adult night club entertainment with a definite Island Flair. He plays at Latitude, high season, Friday and Saturday nights. Latitude with or without The Fiddler is a great place. Wouldn't miss it.

billd, Just a thought but maybe you can get the guys at Latitude to make their chipotle dipping sauce that they used to serve with their grilled shrimp. My wife's fav. but last two years they did not have it on the menu. It was so good I can't imagine it wasn't popular. If you can by Feb would be just fine..

Bob, you're lucky if you can get to lattitude easily. I still think that it's hard to find, considering there sign is tiny. Last May we had 3 jeeps trying to find it and my daughter, who was driving one of the jeeps, really freaked out because we were way back in the woods.

We make great dipping sauce with canned chipoltes. You really only need one, because they're so hot, add some mayo and squeeze some lime juice in it. It's excellent, and addicting.

Connie, You know. it always seems that I am the different one!. Really, I first saw Latitude 18 from the other side of the bay. Looked at the map once and drove right to their parking lot/field. I must admit It was somewhat of an adventure, the first time. I would caution anyone from trying to get there in the dark, the first time. Even so, a little perseverance and patience and your reward awaits. By the way, thanks for the chipotle recepit.

Promoguy, The Chipotle stuff?

Lat 18 is the "bomb" for many of us that live here. Know we usually go at least once a week. WE LOVE IT, THE FOOD, THE BAR, THE AMBIENCE!

LAT 18 rules!
