My husband and i are staying at Frenchmens(Fishermans?) Reef Marriott Jan. 16 th thru the 23rd. Is it a decent place? Not that it matters, II guess, as it's an incentive trip and isn't costing me a dime. Also should I rent a caror scooters or rely on taxis? The trip includeds some excursions but don't know yet what they are. We like the nightlife, casual atmosphere places, any recommendations? The lesss expensive the better!

The Marriott Frenchman's Reef is a beautiful property for St. Thomas. Very nice.

Rent a car from Discount. 340-776-4858....$225/week if you show them proof of insurance from back home. I know this sounds rather high, but the next cheapest place I called was $316/week. Things are expensive here.

Hello,

Mariott's Frenchmans Reef Resort and their second property Morningstar Resort (both located in the same area, staying at one you can use the amenities at the other, share the same beach - Morningstar Beach) are very nice. Morningstar is beachfront, Frenchman's is on the hill overlooking the bay.

Nightlife, casual - you might do Coco Joes at Morningstar, Paradise Point for Wed. Happy Hour, Greenhouse's two for Tuesday, dinner at Banana Tree Grill is really good, pricey but great food, service, view, atmosphere. You can try Sibs for a casual dinner, a couple drinks. There is a Jazz Fest on the 18th of January.

Have a great time.

Hello Tam,

Yes the Marriott properties have several good restaurants/bars. Coco Joes down at Morningstar is a casual place and is good. Windows on the Harbor is nice for dinner.

Don't do ! there was no beach in September. The Marriott was a wreck but the Morningstar over the hill was fine....what beach was there. i trusted the Marriott name after looking at the picture and the price, and the supposed AI......what a joke!

Guests that visit once a month, told me they saw fecal matter in the main Marriott pool. This is where the straps were broken on the pool chairs, and of course sun fried!

i travel alot and that was the trip from hell!

I always wonder about someone who registers just to post negative comments.

And I wonder too why a brand new poster resurrects a 6 year old thread out of the blue to do so three months after their visit...

Don't know if this was posted previously or not, but Marriott will be starting a much needed 45mil dollar renovation some time next year.
See link below:

Marriott Frenchman's Reef Renovation Plan

2011 Renovation
To enhance all aspects of your experience, the Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Resort adjacent to Frenchman’s Cove will undertake a comprehensive $45 million dollar renovation in 2011. The renovation will occur during the seasonally slow summer period between May and September. Two of the four buildings (approximately 300 guestrooms) and the lobby, shops and restaurants located in the main building will be closed. The renovation includes a redesign of the pool, guest room renovations, spa upgrade and expansion, several infrastructure improvements, upgrades to the food and beverage outlets, renovation of the main ballroom, balcony upgrades, renovations to the boat dock and improvements to other facilities designed to enhance your experience.

I would definitely recommend renting a car - there's so much to see - you'll want to at least make one trip to the East End (Red Hook) - also, if you rent a car, make sure you can take it to St. John, which you'll want to do one day - you can drive to Red Hook and take the car ferry $50 R/T including passengers - it's a great deal - then you can visit some of the great beaches on STJ. As for the beaches on the south side of the Island - in September Hurricane Earl did a whole lot of damage, but I've heard the beaches are coming back - don't listen to the negatives - STT is beautiful!
