Not seeing who made the original post and not being able to hover and preview the 1st part of the postings feels like a great loss of ease of use.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

XIslandgirl & Exitzero - preview post wasn't working correctly, so we turned it off until we could figure it out. Author of original post column, will look into it.

Sherri - what do you mean easier to download photos?

Thanks again.

The look of the site is very boring, and the header takes up too much space,IMO. Layout is much better for your advertisers, though. But, I don't like the site now, so won't be visiting as often.

Ms411 - we are doing the updates in phases, and the first phase was what we just completed and are still tweaking as far as getting the website easier to use on mobile devices. We will continue working on the layout and header, so would be interested in hearing more on your opinion.

Do you share Chris' opinion, in that you miss the photos that used to be the at top of the pages? Is it the lack of photos that you find boring? As far as the header taking up too much space - this current header is much small than the previous one. Are you referring to the size of the header while browsing on a computer or a mobile device?

Thanks for your feedback.

On my desktop computer the single bar menu is OK space wise, but the design doesn't add any appeal to me. However, when using my iPhone4, where I jump directly to the forum page from a bookmark, instead of a boring single bar pull-down menu, all I get is the stacked menu filling the entire screen and it takes multiple attempts to scroll past it to get to the message content. Usually, I get frustrated with the battle to get past the menu and go to another bookmarked site.

Definitely you have to find another menu choice for small screen devices that doesn't take over all of the screen real estate. And, some type of Tropical eye candy in the header.

I don't miss that but I do miss getting a sense of the topic by hovering the mouse over the topic line like on the relocation boards.

Thanks Rocky, looking into the header design some more.

Alana - we are still trying to figure out the post preview - it stopped working properly so we turned it off; hope to have it working again soon.

Long as I'm logged on right now, thought I'd mention that I also miss that hover feature. If you figure out how to put it back on, I'd like it. Some posts interest me more than others, naturally, so it saves time opening and closing a post and going back to the main forum.
Just back from a cruise and a single precious day spent visiting friends on Water Island this time. But already planning the next stay and love "lurking" on the forum, reading posts, learning more about VI and dreaming of my next chance to stay.
Thanks for a great virtual community.

The post preview feature (when mousing over a subject line) should work now. 😉

On the computer, iPhone, and iPad when in private messages section the adds on the right side overlay the message listing details so that you can't see dates sent and whether a message has be read.

Yes, I miss the photo banner. I also don't like the mobile version of a website, and don't like if forced upon me (like Washington Post). Some sites ask if I want the mobile version, and I always say no. I bought the 4" screen phone because web pages are tolerable at this size.

I only use the board on my computer. I like it fine, especially now that you can preview with the mouse.

While the feature works on Safari the text box is so far to the left it is not completely legible (~ 70%?)

My apologies to Islander,

I didn't realize, until Chris made the above comment, that I am using Chrome as my browser on the iPhone and iPad. In Safari the huge Header/Menu doesn't trip all of the "pull-down menus" as much when trying to scroll down past the full screen header. Also, in Safari I don't see any adds at all while in Private Mail. But, the Mail Listing does extend off the right side of the screen, until such time as you actually select a message to read it, then it is displayed in a narrow 3/4" column on my iPhone.

Wow...I have not been on here for a while and am badly missing the islands and wanted to get my cheap fix. The site looks great, easier to read, but it is missing the island feel and seems a little cold without the picture banners on top. JMO

Won't keep me from visiting again though!
