“Love City Rise Up”, is Dean Doeling’s newest St. John project. Dean is a familiar face in St. John. He loves the island and for years has given to its community through youth sports, organizing an annual event called JUST PLAY. When the 2018 Just Play event couldn’t take place due to damages caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Dean came up with another way to help the island, through music.
“Love City Rise Up” is a musical tribute to the islanders of St. John USVI and their amazing resiliency through Hurricane Irma and beyond. There are over 10 individual St. John vocalists and musician’s, along with 3 separate St. John choirs who have donated their talents to the project. Proceeds will be donated to the Islands 501c3 entities who have helped and continue to help in the islands hurricane recovery.
We asked Dean about “Love City Rise Up”; “Being a musician, I decided to write a tribute song for St. John, record it and give it as a gift to the dear people of the island. The basic tracks were recorded in Portland, Oregon over the winter of 2018. I flew down to St. John in May of 2018 to record some of St. John’s finest singers, musicians and choirs. Each and every one of them made this song so special in their own way. From what this idea was in the early infancy stages and a glimmer of my idea, has now turned into one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs in my own opinion.”
The CD has been mixed and mastered, a beautiful cover and insert includes the bio of all the St. John talent. Artists include: Shakima Jones, Mark Wallace, Lauren Jones-Magnie, Dakota Eileen, Neshell Lewis, Ms. Ingrid, Evanna Chinnery, Nathan Visel, choirs on St. John, including members of the Moravian Church Choir, Roheem on sax, Ronnie Klingsberg on harmonica, Kenny Rawlins on congas, Ronnie Lee on steel pan, and Haile Israel on guitar, among others. It is available online in CD form at https://lovecityriseup.bigcartel.com/product/love-city-rise-up and also as a digital download on ITunes.
The release party for the CD is set for September 6th, 2018 at Hightide Bar. Details on the Event: Come on out for a night of fun and support your local St. John “Love City Rise Up!” talent. DJ Adonis in the house! Meet the talent. Sneak peek of Making of Video. CD Single Release. Giveaways. CD Singles and other merchandise for sale in limited quantity. This is a free event.
How does this project help St. John? Dean is working with the St. John Community Foundation directly and they are responsible for getting the proceeds from the sales of the CD to the Non-Profits of the island who helped and continue to help in hurricane recovery.
Dean adds; “I want to personally thank all of the people who donated their time and talent in helping to make this project a reality, and especially their belief in me and this project. I hope you all enjoy this single as much as I do and see the value in doing such a project for the people of St. John. Bless you all!”
