This trip to Japan was originally meant for relaxation, without much planning. Through a friend’s recommendation, I met Kaori with a casual mindset, but the experience exceeded all expectations. She gave a fresh and natural first impression, even more beautiful than her photos, with a shy yet gentle smile that instantly put me at ease. The overall interaction felt relaxed and unhurried, especially with the 120-minute arrangement, allowing time to chat, rest, and continue naturally. Even though we communicated through a translator, she was attentive and guided the atmosphere well, making everything feel smooth and comfortable. Overall, it was a relaxing and memorable experience, definitely worth revisiting. If you're interested, you can check out yoasobi25 or あいちゃんの夜戀館.

Totally get what you mean. The Riviera Maya can be hit or miss depending on weather and resort style, and if you’re not into pools or all-inclusive vibes, it starts to feel repetitive pretty quickly. St. John is just a completely different experience, more natural, less commercial, and the water conditions are usually much better for snorkeling when the weather cooperates.

One thing that really sets St. John apart is how easy it is to explore beyond just one beach. Getting out on the water makes a huge difference. A day trip around the USVI or even over to the BVI gives you access to quieter coves and reefs that most resort destinations just can’t match. That’s actually how a lot of people end up falling even more in love with the island.

If you ever go back, it’s worth checking out a local charter option such as Palmara Charters, you can find them through their website. It adds a whole different layer to the trip, more freedom, better snorkeling spots, and none of that crowded, windy beach frustration.

St. John definitely has a way of pulling people back once they’ve experienced it. Hard to compare it to anywhere else.

But if you’re still around looking back at your thread I was in St. Thomas in the 70s and went over to St. John’s with my friend Diane. We were mostly hitching on sailboats, but we got jobs in St. Thomas bartending but our adventure took me to Mobina sewer guesthouse… And she put us up either in her room or where she could watch us? She was kind of a holy roller. I guess she was out of rooms so she sent Dianna and I up the hill to stay in a little house that she must have owned with her sister and there were two guys there also. It’s all a blank. I have oldtimers too. I have not in all these years heard anyone mention the name Malvina sewer.. yet for some reason through all these years, that is a name that stays with me even after all, my backpacking hippie travels in those days. It’s cool to find someone that even knows the name.

I will fly out of Boston, and I usually start with a reliable airport drop-off so I do not stress about timing. I was recommended to hire chauffeur service from Blue Nile Livery for a past early-morning run to Logan.

Now I want advice for the islands. What works best after landing in St. Thomas or St. Croix?

Do you prefer taxis, a rental car, or a pre-arranged ride for the first day?

What should I expect for luggage, wait times, and costs?

If I stay on St. John, which ferry and transfer plan saves the most hassle?

That sounds like a lovely trip 😊
For something romantic, try a sunset drive and stop at a scenic overlook in St. Thomas. A quiet beach picnic in the evening can also be very special. In St. John, walk around Cruz Bay and explore local shops and art galleries. An easy hike like the Lind Point Trail offers great views and feels memorable. Look for a casual beachside dinner with live local music to end the day in a relaxed way.
