My wife and I are planning our first joint visit to St. Croix although I was there back in 85 while in the Navy and I was hoping we could get a little feedback on a couple of things we are looking at doing. We will be there from May 9th to the 17th.

Centerline car rental, we wanted a convertible for tooling around down there so it looked like a jeep is the way to go, Centerline is an easy walk from our hotel(Holger Danske) and I didn't want to hop right into a rental and deal with the left side of the road driving after 8 hours of traveling. I just want to get situated at the hotel and wander down to the brewpub that night.

Gecko's Island Adventure ATV tour.

Dinner cruise on S/V Bon Bagay

She would like to do some horseback riding and we are looking at Cruzan Cowgirls for this.

Fishing, we would like to do either a half day inshore or a longer off shore if we could find some one to split the trip with. Has anyone had any luck with hooking up with another couple to split the charter fee.

We are both history buffs so places like the fort and a couple of the other historic sites are a must do for us so if anyone could give us a "must see" type of place we would really appreciate it.

Beaches, we kinda prefer the quieter and more relaxed type of beach. I looked at a bunch and we have a couple we would like to visit but if anyone can recommend one it would be appreciated.

Really looking forward to this trip after chipping the ice off my car this morning before heading to work and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Les

You may want to repost this on the relocation message board.

Alana33, sounds like he is wanting to vacation, not relocate. I've never been to STX so I cannot help (we are STT/STJ frequent visitors), but hopefully other STX vacationers can assist.

That's why I suggested he post there as a lot of people from STX on that forum that probably won't mind answering tourist questions. I live in STT and have family in STJ but rarely ever get over to STX. Majority of posters here are asking questions about STT and STJ and don't live in the islands. It's rare I see someone from STX respond here but it could happen.

Alana33, got it - so sorry - I thought you maybe read it too quickly and thought it was a pre-move visit question. Good suggestion!

There's a very active group of longtime frequent St Croix visitors on Trip Advisor who I think would be the best source of information.

My random suggestions and opinions:

Go on Google Maps and put 00820 (STX zip code) in search box and choose "satellite" image. Amazing clarity down to walking trails on East End.

Holger Danske is best bang for the buck. You need your room key to get up to the 2nd story pool that overlooks Boardwalk so it's quiet up there with a great view. The hotel is also probable the only place in the world that you'll wake up to roosters and seaplanes taking off. Your response to these sounds will be the exact opposite of barking dogs and noisy mufflers because you'll open up the door and see paradise.

Look up St. Croix Landmark Society for most comprehensive historical site info.

Best beaches Jacks and Isaac Bays; they're worth the walk, Shoys (at Buccaneer), North Shore (for near shore snorkeling), and Sandy Point (open on Sat and Sun only. Closed during sea turtle nesting, not sure when that is).

Buck Island tour is a must.

Pack a soft side cooler, zip locks for ice bags (Holger's ice machine is on your way to car), and a cheap $5 raft that may or may not survive the trip. We leave ours in the Jeep wedged between front and back seats and no one's ever stole it.

My wife and I have been to STX 19 times and have stayed at various hotels (Holger probably 12 times) in town before going to our timeshare at the Divi. Don't waste your time at the casino; tight slots and continuous shuffle blackjack.

I'd be happy to share more info if you're interested.
