Like the title says, I have a trip planned to go to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. I was planning on going in the last week of September. So far, I haven't seen much news coverage of how badly the islands were damaged, so I am a little unsure of how to proceed. I'm also a little concerned about the possibility of more hurricanes occurring. Should I cancel my trip? Any advice on what to do?

I was there in April.  There was some damage but it definitely wasn't enough to ruin you trip.  The island is still very much beautiful and a sight to see.

If you are asking about the condition of the island for those wanting to vacation there -- We were in St. Thomas January/February 2018.  The damage from the September 2017 hurricanes was severe and is hard to describe, but we had a great time and dealt with inconveniences as they occurred.  Most everything had been effected by the hurricane, but in four months, so much work had already been done.  At our resort, some condos were totally destroyed and others had little physical damage - very spotty.  Same with homes and hotels and businesses.  Locals were working hard to repair the damage, but it will take time to get back to "normal".  Locals were very positive and grateful for the tourists who had returned.   During the two months we were there, conditions continued to improve.  We are leaving for St. Thomas soon and expect to see many more improvements on St. Thomas' road to recovery.

If you are asking about going in September (hurricanes) --  Do some weather research and decide.  Thousands of tourists visit the Caribbean every year in September and have wonderful weather.

Personally, I would never give up a trip to St. Thomas at any time of year.
