So, this is a silly question, but while at the Deli Grotto (or Grotto Deli?) in Cruz Bay, I purchased this delicious dessert bar called a Jumble (I think that's the spelling). They had different flavors, but the one I had was peanut butter, oatmeal and chocolate chip. They were large and sooo good! They also had Coconut Jumbles which I wanted to try and never got the chance. I've been searching for a recipe for this treat and not having any luck. Anybody out there possibly know how to make these and if so, would you mind sharing the recipe? Thanks!

Cranberry Cashew Jumbles

Go to foodnetwork.com and type in Jumbles and you'll come up with the above.

www.recipezaar.comm and epicurious.com are my two favorite recipe sites. I think I'm gonna try that last one for Jumbles...looks darn tasty! I'll add some cashews and gummi bears along with the M&M's to really make them fattening! And yummy, too!

Hey Marty, when we're down in June, we can do a food cookoff. I like epicurious.com. foodnetwork.com is another fine one. I'm one of the few that love the food network, especially that Rachael Ray.

Never been to foodnetwork.com Maybe I'll check it out sometime. Epicurious used to be my fav, but I think I like Zaar just a touch more...I do use them both, though! I added a few recipes of my own to them, do a search for "Marty Fredericks" as the author/poster and you can see some of them.

OMGosh...I fell in love with those things last June, I asked for the recipe and was told (by the owner, I believe) that one of the ladies made them from scratch, long story short - I was not given the recipe! Upon returning home I did several searches on Food Network, Allrecipes.com, etc. and couldn't find anything comparable - I will have to try again! Thanks for the flashback!
DELI GROTTO was our FAVORITE place to grab food and go... wonderful stuff - the tuna, chicken, pasta salads...fabulous, German chocolate cake - to die for! It was a good thing we were doing a lot of walking and snorkeling to burn off all those delicious calories I kept packing in. If you do find a recipe for the same Jumble at D.G. I would love it if you would share it with me - Thanks! <')))<

If I do find a recipe, I'll be sure to let you know. I even thought about finding their phone number and calling about it...but I can't find them. If anyone is going down there soon and happens to be in the deli, see if they'll share the recipe with you!! It is a neat little spot for other things as well. I also was glad we were getting so much exercise!

Thank SGP for sharing if you find the recipe! After reading your message I did another search and all the Jumbles are drop cookies, nothing like what the D.G. had, gosh those things were good !! 🙂

Found their phone number: (340) 777-3061. The owner is Dan Sheffey and co-owner is Amy Anderson. Amazing what you can find on the internet 🙂

OK, enough already!

Preheat the oven to 375. Grease (bottom only with vegetable oil) a 10X12 baking pan.

Take two packages of basic chocolate brownie mix that you can get from any supermarket and follow the basic directions insofar as water (and sometimes eggs, depending on the brand) are concerned. Add dark and white chocolate chips. Whatever your druthers, whether it be pecans, walnuts, coconut or all or a combination or none, add them in, stir well, and turn the MOIST (add more warm water as necessary) into the pan.

Bake for about an hour or until a toothpick in the center comes out ALMOST dry and the pan edges are getting curly.

When cool, cut into serving sized pieces (should be 12 BIG portions) and serve warm with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Unused portions can be frozen and only take 1 minute in the microwave to heat up.

That recipe sounds wonderful and you are kind to share it, but sadly that is not the Deli Grotto version - theirs had oatmeal, peanut butter and chips, etc. in them...,but thanks as I will have to give yours a try too ! YUM!

Ah, Spicy, but there's the point! You can add peanut butter (make sure it's room temperature) and oatmeal to the basic chocolate brownie mix, mix and match as you choose OR you can start off with a basic commercial mix of cookie mix without chocolate and play around as you please!

Sorry, I'm just a good cook. I have a restaurant on STT but I do have a problem trying to explain how I do certain things because it's a handful of this and a dab of this and a dab of that and then some other additions and shortcuts and this and that.

There are some dishes I do which are very special and whose secrets I don't ever divulge - but even if I did and even if tried my damndest to carefully write down every ounce of this and ounce of that and pinch of this and pinch of that, it just wouldn't come out the same way if someone else tried it.

Cooking is something that you both learn and can learn and learn from. You can get ideas from recipe books but it all comes down to feel.

I await the onslaught

Thank you for that clarification STTR - although not a professional, I come from a long line of wonderful southern cooks and I VERY familiar with the concept of "pinch of this", "handful of that"... I will try, with your base recipe at my fingertips, to create the now infamous Jumbles!! 🙂 Spicy<')))<

hahahaha....I love it. I'm going to absolutely get fat and start rolling across the floor. To think of the fun I'm going to have experimenting with this basic recipe until I get it right ; ) I can hardly wait. I already tried a coconut jumble recipe I found yesterday. I knew it wasn't right, but it looked so dadgummed good that I couldn't resist. Not even going to wait until it's gone before trying another one! This Christmas, everyone on my list is getting some sort of "jumble-like" goody from me. Gotta go, my latest attempt is probably burning as I type.....

Now I found this recipe, among others, and I'm going to play with this one. There is no peanut butter in it, but I'm thinking part of the butter called for could be substituted with PB - what do you think? Anyway, I've finally run out of chocolate chips, so I have to wait until I make a run to the store tomorrow. Probably a good thing...
