Hi
My husband and I, along with our 2 children are planning to relocate to US VI. we are having trouble with choosing which island. which island is more has more resources for nurses. or even medical personnel. I am a registered nurse and my husband is a surgical tech. we also know that annual salary will be less than in the states but does anyone know approx how much our careers will pay us in the US VI. Any information on this subject would be so helpful.
And we have researched school. I was told by a local islander that most children from the states attend private school. I had a opportunity to pull up web addresses for some private schools in st croix, the prices absolutely blew my mind. They are so unaffordable for my husband and I. does anyone know of a reasonably prices school on the islands that many "continentals" attend.
Thanks for your help in advance.

candra523: You seriously need to do research on the Relocation Forum on this site (see upper RH, "other forum" link.) Read the moving stories, read ALL the stories and threads pertaining to jobs in the medical field, schooling, housing, etc. If the school fees have already blown your mind you're in for many more surprises. All the best in your researching and the relocation forum is one of the best to help you understand island living. Cheers!

Hi,

My husband and I moved to St. Croix more than 2 months ago. I used to work as a nurse in emergency room in Turkey so I need to join 2 exams to get registered, it looks long time and I am also latin dances instructor and wish to continue to work based on teaching. Salaries are about 40-45 K for registered nurses and you should go to apply to the hospitals directly and that I know they always need nurses. We searched much before we choose this island and found out St. Croix is the most family related and prices are much more reasonable than St. Thomas and St. John. I try to give you an idea but ofcourse you should check which is better for your expectations. My husband works for a company who supply internet and phone connections for the schools. I don't know exactly what he knows about the schools but maybe he can find a connection to get better information. Good luck for your relocation plan and happy new year.

You should check with travel nurses. I have met many on st Thomas and know the pay is great and housing is paid for! You sign up for however many months and they give you $ for housing and top pay. St Thomas has Antilles School I think it's called where many send their kids. I would not go with public school for any reason! Good luck.

@gonzalezmom3, we have two websites for the USVI, this one is for travel planning, and if you click over to other website you will find that its geared to moving to and living in the islands, go to VIMovingCenter. All the best with your plans.
