Why not try the local brews? You can get your 'usual' every other day of the week...now is the time to let loose. 🙂

You could, but as mentioned before, you really don't need to, all the major stateside beers are available. Try a local brew, I highly recommend Blackbeard Ale.

Hey,
If all you STJ villa people are so obsessed with dragging meat down to the island, why shouldn't some other silly person drag beer down.

I never take meat down but I do bring back fish. My neighbor swears nothing tastes better than a red snapper from the islands.

Blackbeard ale is produced on the U.S. mainland so is not a "local brew" by any definition. But if you THINK it's a local brew than it tastes really good, ho ho ho. To the best of my knowledge - and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong - the only beer that comes close to being a local brew can be found on STX where a local pub does do some of its own microbrews. Cheers, dears, and may the swilling and quaffing continue unabated...

I've read about bringing down food...i've read about bringing down beer and I think with everything else we have to bring down, that it's just not worth it. I have one large bag that will hold all our snorkeling gear, flip flops, junk whatever...

But....was wondering....How much does a case of let's say...BUD...cost on the island. Just want to prepare myself for the cost because in Grand Cayman, it was about 55.00 a case.

Thanks!

I think a case of Bud is comparable to non-sale prices Stateside, maybe $20-$25, if that much. No sticker shock on beer here 🙂

The only beer I found on STX that cost significantly more tan back home was Corona. But I only buy at the discount liquer stores at home.

On STT Bud and Coors usually sell for about $14.99 a case, Heineken around $21 and Corona about $23.

There's also Presidente - not from the VI but from the DR...erm...Dominican Republic (if memory serves). I'm not a beer drinker (was drinking Cruzan rum before I moved here...talk about FATE!) but I enjoyed the VI Pale Ale I tasted. Not sure where it's actually made though.

STT Resident's prices are about the cheapest I have seen - gotta find out where YOU shop :).

Although I like the "payback" at Cost U Less, their case prices are higher than Plaza Extra or KMart and I usually price check between the two latter, also keeping an eye out on the ads in the newspaper as some smaller stores often have good deals.

Don't bother with Beer - you just feel bloated and full.

Be like the locals - Drink Cruzan/Coke/Lime.

Last October, after careful price comparisions between Plaza Extra and K-Mart on STX, I found Plaza Extra slightly lower on the beverages that I prefer. They also had a much better selection.
This was for both beer and booze.

Sadly, I've been informed that they've shut down the Blackbeard brewery for construction/expansion for about a month, so it won't be available for a while. If you're lucky enough to find some, buy it now!

I know Blackbeard is contract brewed in Minnesota by Gluek Brewery. I assume it is brewed on St Croix as well? Is that a bottled version?

Wonder if there is a taste difference i.e. water type etc.

Manta - VI Pale Ale is produced by Shipyard Brewing Co. in ME, but the original recipe comes from two STJ residents. It originated as a local beer, but due to demand, must rely on a larger facility for production - not unusual in microbrew industry.
