While in St. Thomas, we had the BEST frozen drinks called BUSHWACKERS ! Does anyone know the original RECIPE?

I've seen them on web search with ice cream, and milk and all sorts of stuff but that just was NOT in what I am talking about! This was a frozen cocktail with alot of COCONUT RUM, IRISH CREAM, KAHLUA, AMARETTO, VODKA maybe, topped with whipped cream sprinkled with nutmeg...and we don't know the amounts of any of it. Does anyone?

Islandgirl, Did you try one out of the giant blender? My wife is somewhat of a Bushwacker Aficionado or so she tinks! Any way she swears by the ones up at Paradise Point and we have had them all over the Islands. A weird thing at Paradise is that you can get a couple different recipes for the Bushwacker there. The "Real" recipe is in the mix box they sell and my wife ended up give a large tip to get one out of the box. Here it is and by the way they now have it on a cool refrigerator magnet,

6 oz Baileys
3 oz Kahlua
2 oz Dark Rum
2 oz Amaretto
3 oz Dark Cacao
2 oz Vodka

Mix w/crushed ice, top w/whip cream-cherry & nutmeg.

My Aficionado skips the cherry and whip cream and will never never use anything but fresh ground nutmeg which we absolutely must buy at St. John Spice. NO substitutes..

Kind of off topic a little but the BEST Painkiller I have ever had is at Magens Bay. They float a shot of 151 on top. ( Sorry Soggy Dollar, but yours are awesome also) They come in a 16oz cup delivered to you on the beach or in the water by an Island beauty. Does it get any better?

the bushwacer is one of the best drinks of the Virgin Isles. but the two best places to get a proper one is either Woody's on St. John or at Bobby's in Charlotte Amalie STT. cruzan is the only rum u should use! thanks guys u bought back soooo many memories. need to get back there soon. trying to bring that drink to the Hawaiian Islands!

Spring finally broke here in Lexington Kentucky and the moment I began digging the 5 different liquors out of the cabinet, my wife asked me if I was making Bushwackers! She said she had been craving one, but wanted to wait till we could sit outside in the sun to enjoy. A blender-full later - we were sharing our favorite memories of the VI and already planning how we'll spend our February 2009 trip - this time with 2 other couples.

For 2 people, I used 1/3 cup of:

Cruzan Light Rum
Cruzan Coconut Rum
Vanilla Vodka
Amaretto
Irish Creme

Get CRUSHED ice from your ice maker (if possible) and add 3 cups (crushed going in the blender makes a much more creamy end product versus cubed ice which makes it more "icy"). Blend it then garnish with nutmeg - find the sun and a friend and kick-back!

at work i've started offering the bushwacker on the rocks instead of blended, more flavor and no brain freeze from drinking it too fast, and once again there is no vodka in a bushwacker, thats a tgif thing

Maybe not part of the "original" one, but it's a part of today's (and tomorrow's and next week's, and next year's) one for me! I got the recipe from Woody's website (which no longer seems to offer drink recipes), tried it at home, and man-o-man are they Gooooooood!!

Either way - enjoy your bushwacker as you like them - it's all good!

I went to St. Thomas to Paradise Point in March, 2008 and if you visit the website of Paradise Point you will find the
recipe. It is on the right side of the page but you need a magnifying glass to read it. Soooooooooo here it is! You will need
the following: 6 oz Bailey's Irish Creme, 3 oz Cream De Coca, 3 oz. Kahlua, 2oz vodka, 2 oz Amaretta & 2 oz Dark Rum. Blend
with ice and top with whip cream, nutmeg and cherries with stems.

Enjoy!! I know I am still enjoying since I can back!

I also like the Bushwacker I got when in St Thomas at the bar on top of the hill. I purchased a shirt from that bar that had the directions on how to make them. so here goes.
6oz Baileys Cream Ale
4oz Kahlua
4oz dark creme of Cacoa
4oz Amaretto
2oz dark Rum
2oz Vodka

Mix the above together and put in a blender filled with cracked ice blend until smooth and thick, should make about 4 8oz glasses
I've made theme ahead of time for a party and put the cups in the freezer, when you get them out they look kind of like a Wendys Frosty.
I also made them putting chocolate ice cream in the blender with all the other stuff, this seems to make them a little thicker when done blending, Also try putting chocolate reddy whip (you can find this in a can) on top. This drink will satisfy any chocolate lovers appetite.

Sounds like every port of call has their own version. My husband and I visited Point Pleasant and the bartender there gave us the ingredients pretty similar to what everyone has (dark rum, creme de cacao, baileys, amaretto, vodka and kahlua) but she also included a bit of coconut creme in hers and they were delicious!! We had two each and then "attempted" to walk down the "mountain" back to our ship. We were quite a sight and still have a good laugh about it.

For the question on the amount of ice..... The magic to getting a fronzen drink not to separate is all in finding the right consistency. Look straight down at the liquid while you're blending (start it with the lid on first or you'll have a bushwacker bath!!), then add enough ice to produce a quarter-sized hole in the top of the liquid funnel. If the hole is too big, the drink will be too thin and separate. If it's too small, you'll have ice cream. I recommend keeping all your liquors in the freezer too.

I lived in St. Thomas for two years. As you know, the fun of this drink, is that everyone has a slight variation on this. My contribution is to use Vanilla vodka! what a difference!!!!

OK, while I was in St John, I drank them ALL THE TIME.

These are the ingredients, and I am positive of this:

Light Rum
Dark Rum
Vodka
Baileys
Amaretto
Kaluaha

Equal parts of all..................now it is your choice, you can line the glass with chocolate syrup and top with whipped cream, but not necessary. Just put the above ingredients in a blender with lots of ice, and voila!!!!!! Very very nummy....................

The version on most of the islands is Baily's, Kahlua, Amaretto, vodka and coconut rum with a fresh nut meg dust. This is the standard but some bars add a twist to make it their own.

We just built a new home and the backyard living area is 3 days from completion - including a new pool with a "caribbean blue" liner in it. We are definately going to "Toast the Pool" with a couple different Bushwacker recipes from this string! We've been denying ourselves our Bushwacker indulgence for the past several weeks to make sure it's really special the first time we put on those swimming suits, frost-up the blender with deliciousness, and pretend we're in the islands (although we'll still be in Kentucky).

Can't wait!
