Hello Rob,

Yes there is cellular service here. The local carriers are Sprint PCS, Cingular Wireless, Centenial & Innovative. Some other carriers work too. Any particular carrier you want to know about?

I have Cingular and it worked perfectly fine in St. Thomas with no roaming charges. I didn't make any calls in St. John, but all my signal lines were present.

Hello Kasey,

Neither are providers locally... however for Verizon - many have said they get service without roaming... some say with roaming charges and then a few have said they didn't get service at all.

Not sure about Nextel.

Hmmmm tell me more about Sprint PCS service and no roaming.. I have Sprint PCS and a huge package with them (2500 min and all the whistles n bells for PCS) and I called customer service the other day and the idiots told me ST Thomas was roaming only... roaming fees, and calls to and from US mainland were considered "international calls and billed as such" OUCH...

does anyone know if there is a Sprint PCS store on the island i can call for the real story?

i appreciate any help, i am coming there for 10 days soon and had planned to bring 3 sprint pcs phones to keep my family connected while we are all vacationing there.

I have sprint pcs and I have never had any roaming charges on any calls Ive made from St Thomas, sounds like you got someone who didnt know the answer and just played it safe .The coverage can be a little scetchey in places,I just set my phone to not roam and find a place the signal strenth is good before I call. hope this helps. I was there as late as last month and Im looking at my bill now and there are no charges for those calls.

sprint also has a plan that is 700 minutes for 50/month and for an additional $5 there are no roamig charges also if you go over the 700 minutes they charge $5 for each additional 100 minutes - pretty good deal - also Costco has the sanyo 8200 phone (internet, camera, etc) for around $50 when you sign up on this program. I jut found this on the internet and in the process of changing because my present cell provider does not cover the VI so their rate is all roaming - .40/minute I'm doing all my transfering online with Costco.

Hi,
We have Sprint and have never had any roaming charges appear, works on STT and on STJ in Cruz Bay and on most north shore beaches, but not in Coral Bay and surrounding areas.

Visit www.sprintpcs.com and click the "Find a Sprint Store" link at the bottom.

Use the pulldown at the bottom of the little pop-up window, since the top two search engines seem to only deal with the continental U.S. - Choose U.S. Virgin Islands, and you will see numerous locations!

I have Sprint PCS service, and when I was a stateside subscriber and visited several years ago, I did not get roaming charges on my plan. I also took that same phone plan to places like Maui, New Orleans and North Carolina with no extra charges.

I get pretty good coverage around St. Thomas, although I drop out a lot on the West End, and St. John, it's really sketchy once I leave Cruz Bay. I have, however, picked up calls in B.V.I. waters on the way to Tortola! Go figure...

The service is great, and I've been with Sprint for a long time.

Hello Kayz,

I was told by a cellular phone sales rep. that Virgin Mobile pre-paid uses the Sprint Network here, so yes it works.

Yep! The coverage at Francis was pretty weak, but in Cruz Bay it was good.

I have T-Mobile. I emailed customer service and was told there is no roaming for t-Mobile. However, calls to the VI is $.95 and from VI to USA there is no extra charges. Can anyone in VI know for sure?
