Please let me know where I can purchase decent priced tickets on the web. Also which US-based city has the best/cheapest airfare to STT?

What dates are you looking at? What city will you be flying out from?

The best search engine I've found for STT is http://travel.mobissimo.com/travel/search_airfare.php.

Good Luck!

There are a couple of good airfare search engines. Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, etc. I use one called "sidestep." Go to www.sidestep.com and have a look. It searches many airlines and gives you the best price it can find. But for the absolute cheapest price, you usually have to go directly to the website of the airline. Use a search engine like sidestep or expedia to research which airlines fly between the cities you want, and then go and visit their websites directly and buy the ticket directly from the airline for the best price.

Others know much more then I do, but I know that American, Delta, and US Air all fly non-stop to STT from their mainland US gateway cities. Even more airlines fly to San Juan, PR, with connecting service to STT.

Tickets to STT are always outrageously priced. Alot of times you can get a better rate to STT if you buy a ticket to San Juan and then buy another ticket from San Juan to STT on one of the smaller commuter lines, like Liat or Cape Air. The sea plane (Seaborn Airlines) has good rates from San Juan, too.

From what I have read so far, Sidestep seems to be spyware. It has been picked up by spyware sniffers like Spybot. Good tool but....... buyer beware...... just my 2 cents.

My family and friend are coming to STT for my wedding. Many are coming from the midwest (Chicago, Detriot, Cleveland) and the west coast (LAX, SFO, and SAN)--its the people from the west coast that I am most concerned about. Tickets right now out of San Diego to STT are about $700. I will checkout sidestep and flights into San Juan. THANKS!

With fuel prices I doubt you'll find much better than $700 from SD. Best of luck anyway. 🙂

Prices also fluctuate depending on the time of year. Much cheaper during low season.

check out bestfares.com; they seem to have some negotiated fares and some don't seem to require membership

Best advice above - look at flying to San Juan - THEN - a seperate ticket, to STT. Caribbedan Sun is a newer airline that does not always show up on most major search engines. I found it only once on one of them and I forget which, sorry.

They often have a $94. round trip fare between SJU and STT, while on American it is usually $159 or higher.

Bookingbuddy.com is another good source for comparision shopping, along iwth QIXO.COM.

We paid $846 off season from Des Moines to Atlanta, then Atlanta to STT. I did find cheaper fares if I wanted multiple stops, including San Juan. Multiple stops flights were at least $200 cheaper. It just depends on how much you want to pay for your "Time" versus semi direct flights.

Defintely look into the San Juan thing separatley. Try ATA (american trans air) they have cheap flights at least to ft lauderdale and I think San Juan. Also Jet Blu is flying into San Juan I believe. ATA is not a great airline, often flights are delayed but if it saves you some cash...... I don't think that either of these airlines come up as an option when you search expedia, travelocity, etc.

Just checked ATA's website - you can fly from Seattle, SF or LA to San Juan for $227 one way (red eye flight) I think the highest it goes is $285. They list St. Thomas as a destination but I was unable to pull up a schedule . Best deal I have seen and these were for dates in December 04 and Jan 05. I have flown them before on a red eye to NY - cramped seats but plane was not crowded so I overtook the row to stretch out, Lay over in Chicago Midway, flight cancelled and rescheduled, unorganized, no food but for $200 whaddya want?! Just get me there!

Just checked flights for kicks as I all ready had tickets and found my tickets for January had DROPPED $400.00 on American Airlines! Not knowing where you are coming from I do know USA3000 (internet call letters) has flights for $59.00 from Detroit to Florida cities. You probably can piece together a decent priced trip . By the way I did rebook as I used Expedia insurance that cost me $98.00 but my net savings is $546.00 for a trip for two for ten days at the Divi Carina STX in late January. Tedd

ATA recently filed bankruptcy so hopefully you'll want to fly soon. Normally bankruptcy doesn't affect the flying too much, but head's up. 🙂

Good luck.
