my family will be staying at point pleasant in march of this year. we have been advised to bring groceries with us as the local grocery stores are very expensive, i figure we will try to bring along some non perishables. are there some close grocery stores on the east end near point pleasant?

I was just there in December and I didn't really think that the groceries were all that much more expensive...not so much so that it would be worth packing your own food.

But if you have space in your luggage and don't mind the people at the airport tearing apart your luggage because of all of the metal cans inside, go for it! But really, it wasn't prohibitively expensive.

There is a grocery store in Red Hook - fairly close to Point Pleasant. It is called Marina Market. I don't think the prices are prohibitive. Some things are more expensive than in the states but not a huge difference.

If you go to our Vinow.com moving guide (link is at the top naviagtion on this page) and select Island Life as your topic. Once in Island Life on the right side naviagation there is a link to cost of living - there is actually a long grocery list with items from apples to rice, meats, toothpaste.... with the prices. This will give you an idea of the prices here in St. Thomas and you can compare them to what you usually pay - remember we do not have sales tax, so the price is what you pay.

Alternatively you can cut and paste this link to go straight to that information

Stayed at Point Pleasant for the last 3 yrs. The advice for the Marina Market is good advice. They also have a kick-butt deli and you can eat out on their deck and watch the locals. Please visit Fungi's at the hotel and have one of the best (and biggest) burgers ever! Walking distance to Coki Beach and Coral World. GREAT STUFF!! If it's still there, take a day sail with Morningstar. They run the activities at P.P. and it's also a great trip.
Getting back to groceries, We spent approx. $130.00 U.S. for 7 days worth of groceries for 2 of us and, I'm a big eater,ha-ha!
