Okay, I'll say in advance that I'm embarrased to post this but what the heck, i'm among friends!!!

I'm a Kenny Chesney fan and saw him in concert recently and while I was looking at some recent pictures that were posted on this sight the song about the "Old Blue Chair" of his came on my ITunes and so I'm wondering... have any of you ever seen him while vacationing there or know any interesting tid bits of his living there? Just random thinking on my part, but I do love how he describes the feeling of being on St. John in that song and mentions Cinnamon Bay and it added so much to looking at the pictures! I think at least one of his albums was written in great part while he was there. Anyone know anything that will fuel my interest?

Kathleen - do search on Kenny Chesney on the board.
People get pretty emotional on this topic.

Yep if you are in the right place at the right time you can bump into him, but don't go looking for him or have any expectations of finding him.

He used to be seen around Cruz Bay quite a bit. He began to popularize STJ in his music and videos. His popularity began to overwhelm him and he began to complain that he had no privacy. Then there was the strange business with Renee. He's pretty scarce on STJ anymore. More visible in the BVI. I once thought I could retire to STJ and make a living selling maps to Kenny-related sites (like Hollywood star maps) and then possibly get a safari truck and run tours. I'd also thought about selling those hats that he likes. But he was fading away before i ever acted on it. Another great idea that was too late for it's time.

If you ever get to STJ, there's a really good local reggae band----Inner Visions---that plays at a place calls Fred's during the winter. Go hear them. They may make you forget Kenny.

Did that, Tom B, I'm not looking to be a stalker, I was just enjoying his music about St. John and became curious. Not trying to stir up trouble. Geeez.

I know he should be coming in next month after a long summer tour. That's about all.

Hi Kathleen

I'll touch this subject. We're Chesney fans. Love his island tunes and have come close to wearing out the Old Blue Chair CD. We've stayed on STT on our last couple of trips so we just did day and evening runs over to STJ. Had dinner reservations at the Lime Inn one night so we thought we'd have to check out Woody's as it's an icon and in the all the years of going down we've never stopped in. Well, it was around Happy Hour and we got a couple of seats at the bar for myself and daughter and husband was standing. We had our "Happy Hour" beverages and daughter was writing postcards out. I looked over to my husband and standing on his left side next to him was a guy who looked "Kinda" familiar. I caught his eye and nodded "hi", my husband noticed, turned and did the same, he nodded back, sorta friendly like and then the bar staff noticed him. Questions started...Oh when did you get in?, hugs etc. Figured he was just a friend of theirs...LOL He got his drink and headed somewhere...I didn't pay any attention. Daughter finished up her post cards and we finished our drinks, but not before checking out the wall decoration...one of Kenny's' Platinum records which I pointed out to hubby and we both basically got an "Ah-HA" moment, although we didn't say anything until we were seated for dinner at the Lime Inn and said...guess that was Kenny Chesney that joined in on Woodys Happy Hour scene. Funny, we'd always pictured him in a cowboy hat so when he appeared standing next to us in a baseball cap worn backwards he looked like everybody else and didn't stand out in the crowd. Other than that we don't know a thing about his island life...just enjoy his island music.

Yup Tom you are right. Though I am not a fan of him. I think he deserves his time to himself that why he went to St John. Think all should leave him alone like all the stars that have homes on different islands they want time to themselves. IMHO

The only information I have from my time on STT and STJ is that everyone we talked too, and alot of bartenders always say the same thing.... "You should see how short he is". I didn't know that and maybe they're exaggerating, but as a big fan, I don't care what his height is...he has a great insite into island life.

I've heard the same thing said about many stars when they've been seen in public... about how short they are. Sting and Tom Cruise in particular.

Kathleen B,

Please excuse me if you think I was implying your wanted to stalk him. I was trying to give you a caveat that folks in recent months who posted questions about him were hammered by many on the board.

We have been to VI many times over the last few years. My son was living in Red Hook. I never met him, but my son has on a few occasions and even got to party on his boat. He did becomes friends with the guy who takes care of the boat (rumored to be Island Boy)

He, my son, moved down to the islands about the same time as "be as you are "came out. Mom and Dad hated country music - We grew up listening to Sgt Pepper's to Dark Side of the Moon - just could not get to excited about a Sexy Tractor - I got one and it ain't sexy. But when he moved down he left us that CD. And when we missed him or something went wrong we would listen to it and think of him. Believe me after midnight in the islands lots can go wrong.

On one visit when my wife went down by herself she and my son were visiting a friend who worked on a boat near Kenny's and they got invited over by Island Boy for a beer. Kenny was not home. Our son has returned and mom and dad are much happier.

Once again I apologize if I offended - just a warning.

Oh yeah - my wife is now a fan. I was directed to buy tickets for a recent show and went with some of our friends who are big country fans. I blew them away - I knew all the words and sang a long. Still do not like that much but it was a great show.

"I blew them away - I knew all the words and sang a long"

Did this at a Paul McCartney concert and damn did my wife me hateful looks, and so did some of the folks around.

Went to KC's concert here in Los Angeles basically as an appeasement for dear wife. It was okay.

Tom B,
Apology accepted and loved your reply, thanks for taking the time to tell me about your son, etc... and I sang along at the concert I went to in the spring and pretty much noticed everyone doing it!!! It must be a country music thing... and as hokey as it is... I can't help but sing along with that tractor song even though I love his island stuff better!

All I can say is without Jimmy Buffett.... There would be no Kenny Chesney.

I don't know about that. Buffett is great and I'm a really big fan, but I appreciate Kenny Chesney alot.

I think he would of been famous eventually whether Buffett was involved or not.

Come on, he's great.

This is so true, no body sings Islands song better that Jimmy Buffett long before there was a KC. KC made a statement in Caribbean Life he was no Jimmy Buffett clone didn't like his style of music he he wouldn't be caught dead sing about the Caribbean Island . I guess he has to eat his words. So KC fans he doesn't do much for me but I take Jimmy Buffett or Alan Jackson anytime 😉 But this is my view each to their own taste in music.

This is so not true if not for Jimmy Buffett there would be no KC. KC never wanted to sing songs like Jimmy Buffett he said so in Caribbean Life two years ago. JB was long here before KC .
This is my view as I am not a big KC fan but a big Jimmy Buffett fan from way back along with Alan Jackson. Of course everyone has their own taste in music

I have been a Buffett fan for 25+ years. My sister gave me the 2 Kenny Chesney CD's (NOshirt,no shoes, etc and be as you are). She said I need to become a KC fan - well I'm just not feelin it. The songs are OK, but they just don't do it for me the way Jimmy does. They are completely different. No comparison. As far as no KC without Jimmy Buffett - its completely different music. His success has nothing to do with Buffett's, and if people like him, its because they like country music, not because they like Jimmy Buffett. Do I make sense?? Well this is all just my honest opinion!

By the way - just started "a salty piece of land" and I'm so enjoying it!

To me you make perfect sense. Not even a like or can compare each with each other.
