Wow Jennifer,

I guess you are trying to plan a really special honeymoon now aren't you?

Honestly, I didn't think that people needed to start asking questions like this until several years into a marriage :)!

Seriously though, to the best of my knowledge there are no nude or topless bathing places on STT. The french islands might be more suited for you, if enjoy sunbathing "au naturale."

Topless/nude sunbathing is illegal in the VI's (and remember walking around town or anywhere else except on a beach is a ticketable offence) so sorry your's just going to have to remain dressed 🙂 As far as beer is concerned you can pretty much get anything you want here.

Hi Pia.

I think you meant walking around IN A SWIMSUIT anywhere but the beach or pool is a ticketable offense! 🙂

Jen: Okay, I am going to add Pavilions and Pools to your list of places to check out. Each unit has a PRIVATE pool!

What kind of American beer do you want? Why not try some of the Caribbean beers like Presidente, Carib or Heineken? (Okay, I know Heineken isn't really Caribbean, but it IS, as someone on St Maarten once told me, THE beer OF the Caribbean!)

If you really want to try local: CRUZAN RUM in your Painkiller!

no idea on the nude sun bathing, but I'm sure you can find a place on the island.

as for beer - they sell just about everything. the local beers are decent at best, however, they are cheaper ($2 bucks vs. $4). I spent the week drinking corona and tequila.

as dc said , sure you can find a place to nude/topless sun bath...but....do so at your own risk !! this is illegal in the vi's. it is not uncommon to find a national park policperson checking beaches/they would ticket you if undressed !! people who live in the vi's/ esp west indians find it very rude to walk around uncovered. that is why you should also cover up while in town...this is a courtesy we should show to our hosts. we need to respect the cultures of the islands/countries we visit !! think about renting a villa, that has privacy so you could lounge around the pool area in whatever form you prefer...on the beaches ..keep it on !!! if it's that important maybe you should look at other islands where this is acceptable !!

Maybe you should just check out another island where it is acceptable to go nude sunbathing. You could try Jamaica there is a resort that is into that. Or one of the French islands. I know Antigua you can go topless only as well in Mexico. Please when posting keep in mind it is not polite to write in "caps" thanks ! Good luck in finding a place to have your wedding & to go nude sunabthing:-)

Barb: Just as edification- while there are resorts on Jamaica and Antigua that have clothing-optional compounds, it is still frowned on by the locals. These all-inclusive resorts are not owned and operated by local folks. The only islands in the Caribbean that condone topless beaches are the French-governed islands. And even at that, there are some who feel that the colonial masters are ramming French culture down their throats!

Jen: I get the feeling that you are just searching for information about the USVI, am I correct?

The only other thing I will add to this discussion regarding sunbathing au naturale in this VERY VERY strong Carribbean sun is:

SUNBURN

If you and your husband are exposing areas of your body to this strong sun that rarely get exposed, the honeymoon might be over fairly quickly...............................

I suggest that you stay in a wonderful private villa where you can be nude all you like but enjoy the fabulous beaches on STJ wear the necessary attire. If you've never done a villa vacation St. John is the place to experience it. Once you do you won't want to do the resort thing ever again.

I realize this I was just pointing out to her that there are other islands that are not frown upon. When I was in Jamaica I saw it widely and by the local as well. As well in the Turks but mainly topless. I have no problem with this. Just there is a proper place for it.

Not sure what a "proper" place is for nudity, but I do know a white sandy beach with a run-down empty building that has all the privacy one would need to shed whatever clothing one would like.

However, as has been pointed out, it's still illegal and you just might get nabbed and it just might turn into just the sort of legal tangle that somehow totally negates the value of getting nude in the first place!!

How about you don't worry about getting naked and just enjoy the warm water and really great beaches, sun, drinks, v a c a t i o n!!!!

Ok guys, I'm not a PERV. I was just curious. Lord forbid we end up on a beach full of half naked women - I'd prefer that my new hubby keep his eyes on me.

I hope that explains the question.

Hi Jen,

I believe I can speak for everyone, when I say that no one was suggesting you were a "perv" for inquiring about sunbathing au naturale.

And I would like to apologize for anything that I might have said that gave you that impression. I have no problem whatsoever with people sunbathing sans swimwear. Although I don't do it myself, I honeymooned in Europe where I spent a lot of time on the beaches. At times it seemed that I was the ONLY ONE with both top and bottom on.

Honestly though, I never got the impression that anyone cares one whit about what anybody else is wearing (or not wearing) on those beaches -- it just isn't a big deal one way or another. But that's Europe -- not the USVI.

I think what people were most concerned about is potential problems that you and your husband, as a tourists in the USVI, might have by doing something that is quite frowned upon, and indeed illegal, here.

This is a great place to vacation and to honeymoon and I hope you will decide to make this your destination in September.

By the way, my offer still stands to "scope out" any hotels for you that you think you might be interested in.

Also as you know from the other threads you posted to, East Ender has a lot of great advice and info to assist you with your planning.

Good luck with your planning, and let us know if there is anything else that we can do to help :)!

Best,
Mell

SXM is probably a better choice if you looking for freedom on apparel

Boat rental - lots of room to go neckid out there! While you're there - go to Norman Island to Willie T's - if you jump off the diving deck naked you get a tee shirt.

I don't think you perverted - just wanting to enjoy the experience.

You only get a T-shirt jumping off the Willie T. if you're a woman. My kayak trip guide knew the bartender on board (whom you have to notify before you jump or no shirt), and from what she said HE seems like a perv, not the people who took their clothes off.
