May as well inform everybody here since many people already know and the coconut telegraph has a unique way of skewing everything!

After 15 years under the same ownership (quite a record here actually), The Toad and Tart Pub on St Thomas is officially set to close on July 31st. The Old Tart is getting older and very tired, still doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up but will be closing up with an abundance of truly wonderful memories of awesome customers (locals and visitors alike) and a bunch of stories to last another lifetime. At least one book is contemplated and names will be changed to protect some of the guilty!

Come by and see us before closing for some good grub and generous libations! Towards the end of July and through August, everything will be sold. Memorabilia, antiques, fixtures and furnishings, not to mention a plethora of toads - so much stuff for true and what a headache to get it all together. Cheers!

I'm so sorry that we won't be able to get to the island before you close. We have our pictures and fond memories of past visits to cherish.
May your next stage in life be blessed.

We won't make it down before you close (arrive 8/30). We hope to see you at the wedding (9/10 11am, you know where). We are going to miss our T&T visits very much. Where will I get my Bangers & Mash? Seriously, God speed Anna dear and I hope the next phase of your life is awesome.

Shocking news. I don't know you all personally but I will certainly miss that place. Whatever goes in there just won't seem the same.
Best Regards

Anna, my best to you and all your staff. Although I did not make it to your place this past March to introduce myself, I still feel as if I have known you for some time. When I visited this site and the trip advisor site for helpful hints about STT, you were always that shining beacon ready to help travelers enjoy their time on your fantastic island. I will never forget your assistance and gracious attitude.

So, I say thank you from my wife and I and from all the people who visit these boards. You may not have always provided the answers they were seeking (as in one funny case) but you were always honest and knowledgeable, and I could not have asked for more. God bless.

...and we were planning to stop in and finally say hello next April 🙁
Now I am really sad we didn't do so last trip.
I suppose that is the message here...do not put off things you want or should do as you might not get to do them at all.
I hope that is your intent and that your life after T&T will be as full as the last 15 years. I look forward to your advice and new stories on the board immersed in that dry English humor.
From one ex-pat to another, cheers indeed.

You will be a Tart In Training, sweet pea, for still some years to come but of course you will remain a T.I.T. until such time as you pass all the tests necessary to be officially designated a full fledged Tart! XXX

The Toad and the Tart was the very first restaurant we visited on our honeymoon. Couldnt have asked for a better experience. You will be missed 🙂

Enjoy your next adventure and know that you brightened many vacations.

Cheers

Will miss you so much dear Old Tart...dinner in the Cozy was something I always looked forward too, especially on Awesome Prime Rib night...will never forget last year when my husband was on island and I was home with a broken leg, he called to say, "The Old Tart is serving up road kill tonight, do you think it's lizard stew?" Oh I will miss you, but hope your next chapter is as colorful as your last!!

Hugs, Debbie

Thank you all so much for your kind words which, believe me, help make this very difficult transition a little easier. "Every little helps" as the old lady said as she peed into the sea! Old Brit joke! Cheers!

Just a quick update from a Tired Old Tart about the last two weeks in business. The bar only will be open tomorrow night, Thursday the 21st. Open for dinner as usual from 5:32-9:46PM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Next week (the last!) we'll be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Sunday July 31st being a, "Clean Out The Kitchen" dinner night with who knows what on the menu but everything priced right along with give-away prices on liquor! Got to clean out this place.

EVERYTHING is for sale during August! Kitchen and bar equipment and supplies, 'fridges and freezers, indoor and outdoor furniture, A/C units, ceiling fans, antiques and collectibles, TVs, gardening supplies and equipment - so much more and putting together a list has had my old head spinning out of control but fortunately I haven't (as yet) done a nasty Linda Blair, although that may soon come. 😀

I can only take a few toads with me so the majority are up for dibs. So many memories in them thar toads but if you're around in the next two weeks make me an offer on those or whatever else. All proceeds go to The Old Tart Retirement Fund and every little helps (as the old lady said as she peed into the sea)! Cheers!
