Instead of tacking onto the post for the people that will be down the week before, thought I would start a new one. The people your parents warned you about are invading St John from 2/24 until 3/3. Sixteen drunken boaters from WV. Actually we are staggering in over several days. My wife and two other couples are coming in on Thursday the 22 staying at the Mafolie Thursday night since we don't get in until 4:00. The Mafolie is a good overnight time warp to get back on island time, nice dinner great view just to get adjusted. Two other couples flying in with us are going straight to the Westin. My wife and I and one of the other couples chartered a boat for an overnight on the 23rd to sail to Jost then drop off Saturday afternoon in St John. Saturday is when it gets scary by Saturday evening there will be a total of sixteen of us trickled in. The island may never be the same. This is going to be a backwards trip for me as I usually spend one or two days on land and six or seven on a charter boat, (not my idea to be landlocked but I will survive). We did rent a couple of vehicles to help see the island I guess I better get used to driving in the left lane. I have never spent more than an afternoon in St John but seems like a beautiful place. Any suggestions on absolute must see things let me know. I have a friend bringing a charter boat over from St Thomas on Monday and taking all of us out for a sail around the island and will likely rent a couple of power boats mid week and run back to Jost and maybe Peter Island just so some of my Villa slug friends can get a taste for the BVI's. I gotta get in a couple of dives while we are down as well.

27Days to wheels/fins up.
Jay

My wife and I live in Nitro on the Kanawha River just outside Charleston. It truly is a small world. Were are you staying in April? I have made a few more trips than I probably should have and have a pretty good feel for the islands. There is only one problem with going to the islands, nothing else will get it done after this trip. The Atlantic coast or even the keys in FL just don't have the same effect after being down there.
I am afraid I can only root for the 'eers when they aren't playing Marshall. My dad bleeds blue and gold.

Hey, are you a member of the Drunk, Broke Friends Tour from the other (sorry Islander) VI message board? If so your trip sounds like a blast! If not, your trip STILL sounds like a blast! So many things to see in St. John, I don't even know how to answer your question! Woody's is a must for happy hour. As for beaches, check the board for that question on others' opinion. I would definitely hit Trunk (on a light cruise ship day), Waterlemon (for snorkeling).

Wish I were going during that time! I love rum....and rednecks 🙂

It truly is a small world. I feel sorry for you if you're a Marshall fan! no, just kidding. We were at the WVU/Marshall basketball game the other night. Were you there? WHew!! pulled it off. I was SICK that first half. Went to see We Are Marshall just last weekend. They did a good job with that, do you think so?

Well maybe someday I'll get to say that I've made more trips than I should have, but I'm getting a late start - since I'm already 47! We're staying at Secret Harbour April 19-26. It must be great having friends with boats in the VI's!! Our son has a boat for the Ohio River - not exactly the same heehee. (Our property borders the river here.)

Well gee, sorry we're gonna miss the invasion of the rednecks next month. You guys have fun, and be sure to post a trip report when you get back! That's what the rest of us live for - other people's trip reports haha!

Captain Jay,
Who will you rent power boats from? Many of the boats I've looked at try to provide all this fancy stuff! We want to go to Jost and have a "few" drinks. We don't want some fancy lunch. We just want to have FUN! I think Jost is the place to be! KK

Land Locked,
No I am not a member, I did see that post they look like my kind of people. I think they are down the week before.
KK,
As to boats Nauti Nymph will likely get the business this time. The will require that you have 100 hrs experience operating a boat in blue water or they will make you hire a captain for the day but it is a good way to see the islands and do what you want to do.

Truly is a small planet. I live about a mile upstream from the Nitro, St Albans bridge across the river from Charleston Lincoln Mercury. Can't miss the house two forty five foot boats tied up out back, and a tiki bar on the river bank.

KK,

Our group of 6 just booked a day with "Born To Rhumb". They don't mix parties of people, you just have to meet the min. of 7 people at $140/ea or $980, but they can take up to 12 if you have a larger party. This price includes drinks, pop, water , snorkel gear and your custom fees of $20. They will take you wherever you want to go. Check them out, sounds like a good deal to me. Has anyone used or heard anything about this company?

I am sorry I won't be there your trip sounds like alot of fun. My 3 friends and I are all going down in may. We are all looking forward to a week with no kids, sun and rum. There has been some talk of the broke drunk friends tour. I would like to read the post they left but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas? Thank you , Leticia

Lana,

You wil LOVE Born to Rhumb. Seven of us had the most amazing day last April with Captain Kevin and first mate Andi. We are booked again for this April! Captain Kevin will take you anywhere you want, for as long as you want. We just followed his suggestions and had the greatest day! The boat is comfortable and fast so you can hit a lot of spots and never feel rushed. Tell Kevin Bernie's sister Paula says HI!!

Hello, I just logged on to this site today since my husband and I are going to St. John this week. This is to the WVA people...my dad was one of the coaches on the Marshall plane crash. We were in Huntington for the making of the We are Marshall movie and then for the premiere. Pretty amazing movie, although tough to watch the first few times. It is really a small world! the only reason I read this message was because I was afraid the 16 rednecks would be in St. John when we were! LOL!

pswlrw,

We will be in St. Thomas from Feb 16th-23rd, going on day trip on Feb 19th!!! I can't wait to get out of here, today we woke up to -20. They said on the news that it is the longest stretch of weather this cold in 11 years. I guess St. Thomas sunshine will feel that much better.!! Thanks again!

Vickie,
Sorry to hear your father was in the crash. Yeah we loved the movie but it was difficult to watch. My family has a long history at Marshall, my brother, my sister in law, two aunts, two unlces and a bunch of my cousins all graduated from Marshall. One of my cousins owns a Marshall sports news magazine. My aunts and uncles went to school around the period of the crash and knew some of the people involved.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
Jay
