Well, I have a boat in the islands already, so have a boat name (or two, actually, since the dinghy has a name also), so am partial to my own. Lots of great names out there, though, so know you will find a good one. Will be interesting to see what names are suggested here.

You do know about the superstitions about changing a boat's name? Have attended many "boat name changing events" over the years; many friends have used the Vigor's Denaming Ceremony to rename their sailboats, which is my favorite way to do the name change(maybe due to the libations which are essential after you break the champagne /or Cruzan Rum/over the bow, and this ceremony is much easier than sinking and then refloating the boat)

Vigor's Denaming Ceremony

"In the name of all who have sailed aboard this ship in the past, and in the name of all who may sail aboard her in the future, we invoke the ancient gods of the wind and the sea to favor us with their blessing today, etc.etc."
For the full renaming ceremony, look at this site:

http://www.globalpsychics.com/amusing-you/superstition/boat.shtml

During our sails, I have kept a record of names of sailboats we have encountered on the seas- my all time favorite is
"Sailbad the Sinner"
She was a beautiful, sleek sloop that sailed alongside us many miles from St Thomas down island, and was last seen sailing off into the sunset towards Grenada; never heard of them again, but am sure she is out there somewhere sailing and living the good island life.

OK, after taking our boat out today only to find a "problem" with one engine, our friend on board told us (no we did not know this - we must have been living in a remote part of the world) that BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand !! I am soooo considering renaming ours to that 🙂

It is like naming a horse. It has to be original, humorous (and/or true), memorable (how many times have people asked, "What was the name of that boat we took that one time we sailed somewhere with some kind of rum and some people and..."), and connected to you personally. There are websites that help you name your boat such as: http://www.firstboat.com/boat_names.html?source=google&gclid=CJ2egOrGqI0CFQWzgAodJlG-tQ
Good luck!

The Top Ten List of Most Popular Boat Names for 2006:

1) Aquaholic

3) Reel Time
4) Hakuna Matata
5) Happy Hours
6) Knot Working
7) Life Is Good
8) Destiny
9) Plan B
10) Pura Vida

Teresa (My favs are: 'Fah Get A Boat It' and 'Knot His')

If we had one it would be the Numbskull.

When we play pretend pirate games with our youngest son, I am pirate Captain Daddy-o of the SS (silly ship) Numbskull.

Lol!

Having owned several boats I think my favorite was a big Gulfstar named "Change" and the dinghy was "Loose Change".

Friend of mine wanted a boat. His wife said if you buy a boat I'm getting a boob job. So they did and the boat became "Dottie's BJ"

Now I ain't touch that name with a ten foot pole or should I say 36 C's.

I think I would have spelled the word out if you catch my drift.

Promo, are you talking about the BJ name.

After thinnking about that one, I think it would be cool to have a sailboat and name it "blow job". 😉

It's probably been used hundreds of times.
