Season (High/Low)

The USVI experiences visitors all year round however the high season is late November to early May. During this period up to 7 and 8 cruise ships per day might call on St. Thomas. Cruise ships continue to visit during June through October in a lower volume.

Shopping

Snorkeling

Snorkeling is a favorite activity for cruise ship visitors to the USVI. Where are the best spots? On St. Thomas a favorite spot in Coki Beach. On St. John, Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay. A charter to Buck Island from St. Croix is a great choice.

St. Thomas and St. John in One Day

It is possible if you head out early off the ship to visit both islands on your own by ferry/taxi or by renting a car. You can visit St. John see a little of the island and then head back and see a little of St. Thomas before getting back on the ship. This half-day on one island and half day on the other makes for a busy day. Visit St. John first and spend the remainder of the time on St. Thomas.

Taboos

It is a taboo to wear swimwear anywhere besides the beach or poolside. Locals frown upon and take offense to men who walk bare back through town and to women who wear swimsuits along public roads in town and around shopping areas. If is seen as a disrespect to the local residents. You will be received much kinder by at least wearing a beach cover up when not on the beach.

It is also encouraged that you say Good ____ (Morning, Afternoon, Day) when greeting people, particularly in stores. They will usually greet you in the same way.

Taxis and Taxi Rates

Taxis are everywhere, literally. When you disembark from the ship you can be assured that there will be taxi drivers and tour drivers waiting for you. Popular destinations like Magens Bay , St. Thomas and Trunk Bay , St. John also always have taxis waiting to take you back to the ship or ferry. Rates for taxis are not metered they are per person and per destination. Below you will find a table with rates between popular destinations for cruise ship visitors .
