The Virgin Islands National Park’s beaches, coral reefs, historic ruins and hiking trails provide endless hours of exploration and enjoyment on St. John, as well as inspiration and opportunities for reflection. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities on the land and in the water. Some visitors explore the park on their own, while others prefer a guided tour.

Eco-Tours

St. John is home to the Virgin Islands National Park which preserves about 3/4ths of the islands forest, it also includes thousands of acres of submerged lands and waters that contain a significant amount of coral reefs, shorelines and marine life. What better way to enjoy, understand and appreciate the rich natural and historical elements protected by the National Park than with expert guides to lead the way.

A unique, 3 hour guided multi-eco experience awaits you! Kayak along fabulous turquoise waters and sandy beaches. Paddle over colorful coral reefs in shallow, crystal clear waters and over sea grass bed areas frequented by sea turtles, rays and dolphins. Hike a picturesque wooded tropical forest trail. Snorkel a coral reef in clear waters of the Virgin Islands National Park. A nature guide interprets the marine life. Fun for the entire family! No experience necessary. Space is very limited. Departure: Sunday, Monday, Thursday & Friday afternoons at 2pm. Meet at Caneel Bay’s Water Sports Building. Advanced Reservations Required.

Enjoy a guided hike along a picturesque trail in the Virgin Islands National Park. Guides will entertain you with stories about St. John’s flora, fauna and history. After exploring a one mile trail, you will reach the soft sand of a palm fringed beach. You may choose to snorkel in the clear waters of a coral reef teeming with colorful fish. Then, explore the ruins of a former Sugar Plantation nestled in the gardens of a resort. Finally, have your camera handy during your five minute safari bus journey along the scenic North Shore Drive on your return trip. We provide mask & snorkel, snorkel vest and candy. Departs: Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings; 3 hours. Reservations required.


Guided Walking & Hiking Tours

Take a walking or hiking tour in the National Park with a professional and knowledgeable guide and learn about the islands history and ecology.

The National Park Service offers a guided hike of Reef Bay Trail. It is lead by a ranger and is a popular choice. It takes place every Monday and Thursday at 9:30 am. The schedule is subject to change based on demand. Enjoy learning about the secrets of St. John's tropical forest, petroglyphs and sugar mill ruins on this three-mile hike. Reservations are strongly recommended as space is limited. Contact the National Park Visitor's Center on St. John for more information.
