My husband and I are planning a trip to St Thomas Jan 13, for 4nights, I am
confused about visiting the baths. Is it worth the money to take a tour, or can I see
everything using Speedys? Will Speedys get us there and back the same day.
Thanks for any help with this information
4 days is not a long time. And you need passports. However I would suggest that if you are going take the New Horizons breakaway which does Jost, Baths, and one more island. Also, you need to clear customs in St.John so you can wander around and then take the ferry back.
I agree with billd. IMHO, taking a charter is a much more pleasant way to view the BVI. You will have a mate who will fix drinks for you, fix lunch or help you with menu choices, explain what you are seeing etc. You will probably make a couple of stops, so you can see the lay of the land, or islands. If you take the ferry, you get stinky diesel fumes and sometimes surly service. It all depends how you want to spend one of your vacation days!
Warning the cute little breakfast/lunch hut on the backside of wharfside shops is now a mexican lunch place. Surly something or other? Anyway, served us a horrible meal. Normally I don't complain but when I did this time as it was really totally inedible was rudely told that that was the way it was. Guess that's why surly is part of their name. So many great places to eat on St John so do yourself a favor and don't stop there for a quick bite.
FWIIW, we have used Stormy Petrel several times, always a good trip, great crew, a lot of fun, will be doing the trip again with them in April.
They leave from St. Thomas and stop on STJ. Have to have Passport.
New Horizons is a great trip, and a wonderful way to spend one of your days in USVI. The Baths are very worth seeing with the tour.
I'm also looking at different charter options to get to the BVI and I took RM's suggestion and looked up Stormy Petrel. Their options look like just what we are interested in. Can anyone tell me more about their trips? We're not looking for a party boat - just a relaxed way to see the sites. I emailed the company but is there anything I need to know that they won't tell me? Thank you! Can't wait to get down there where it's 80 degrees!!!
Stormy Petrel is one of the longest running and highest quality trips operating here - if you really have any questions about something before you arrive do not hesitate to call the owner Captain Al Day and ask. His crews are also some of the most respected competent boaters in the VI and any of the other operators or competition would agree.
