Salt Pond Bay is a beautiful bay with amazingly clear water. The beach is often sparsely populated because it is a longer drive from Cruz Bay then most of the popular beaches, and requires a short 7-10 minute hike downhill once at the parking lot. You can continue hiking around a nearby salt pond toward the ocean on the Drunk Bay Trail. A longish swim to the middle of the bay to a set of jagged rocks that break the surface offers good snorkeling. Snorkeling can also be enjoyed along the rocky sides of the bay, in particular the eastern coastline. The beach doesn't offer shade as foliage consists of short shrubs.

Firstly, let me share I have been to St. John 7x's and will be heading down again in late May, 2021. With that said, I have not returned since the hurricanes hit but am hoping it has been long enough to rebound.

I always go to Salt Pond for snorkeling and head out to the shoals to the right and out a ways (you can see them from the beach and they are just breaking the water). The swim is lovely and worth it as you will typically see a lot of beautiful coral and fish e.g., squid, trumpet fish, angel fish, lobster, etc.

Once you finish your snorkel, be sure to hike Ram's Head, or visa versa. The view from the top of Ram's Head is amazing and worth the hike!

Have Fun!!
