Ok everyone, countdown time is here and I have 2 weeks and 2 days until im on a nonstop flight out of Philly to St Thomas.

Im taking my 8 year old which will be turning 9 out for a BDay dinner while were in STJ. The recommended options are the Balcony, Paradiso, or Chloe & Bernards. Nothing extravagant but a little BDay cake with candles etc. So help me out here, which one of the 3 would you choose for this occasion? Thanks guys.

None at all. They are all pretty stiff places for a 9 yr old kid. How about Lime Inn or the Mini Golf place? A little more casual.

Yea, were just looking to have a nice cake with candles for him, so he feels the BDay vibe, and to have a nice dinner.

I agree with Ron - the restaurants you mentioned are among the more "upscale" places on STJ - Lime Inn, Pastory, Morgans Mango, Fish Trap are more "relaxed" - not sure where you might find a restaurant with candles you might want to call in advance and check it out or better yet just bring some from home and have them put it on his dessert of choice or buy a cake from Baked in the Sun or Starfish and do the birthday thing at the hotel/villa before dinner (even do it for breakfast - nothing like starting the day out right 🙂 ) - I'm sure candles are here somewhere but my husband tried to find candles for my bithday "slice of cake" (it was a treat - carrot cake from the deli in Mongoose - the best I have ever had in my life) and the only candles he could find were from the hardware store - the 6" fat kind it was very funny and very cute as they kind of covered the cake 🙂

Ya, I'd reccommend something a little more casual. The sites you listed are high-end.

Kids really seem to like Skinny Legs in Coral Bay. Visit the website: http://www.skinnylegs.com/.
Send them an email: [email protected]

Pastory Gardens near Cruz Bay has a casual atmosphere and mini-golf. Visit the website: http://www.pastorygardens.com/index2.html.

Miss Lucy's in Coral Bay for lunch might be worth it too and maybe some birthday goats will come celebrate with you!(340) 693-5244.

Maybe give a call to any of these places and see if they can help you out with a cake option or something similar. Maybe one of the bakerys in town (Mongoose Deli, Simple Feast) can deliver a cake for you (him).

Countdown time for us too! We're outta here the day before you are on the same PHL-STT non-stop! (and yes, my $31.50 tickets for that flight are still in USAir's reservation system!) I SO cannot wait!!!

A birthday on STJ - what could be better? Maybe your 9-yr-old would like to choose the restaurant - after all, at the age of 9 (being much more worldly and sophistocated than 8) I'm sure he'd make a fine choice. 😉

We're staying at the Westin too (villas - across the road from the main hotel). We arrive at the Westin on Sat (7/15); will be at Concordia on 13th & 14th. Yup VERY small world!

We do have youngins, but they're not coming with us this time. We could meet to say "hi" though.

I have to agree with Pastory Gardens. There is a much better selection for the 9 year old palet than at the other restaurants you mentioned. My 13 year old loved it there. The ambiance is great. There's white lights trimming the decks and you can look out to the lights of St. Thomas if it's dark. Then hit the mini-golf place.

Whatever you decide will be wonderful! Enjoy!

Are you taking a day trip on any of the chartered boats? Were gonna do a full day trip and then take the ferry and head over to Jost Van Dyke. Last year we rented a boat with our own private captain, but we didnt get anything accomplished that we wanted to see.

We usually rent a boat and do it ourselves. We're pretty familiar with the USVI/BVI area after doing a week of bareboat sailing a few years back. I think we're going to go for a two-day rental this time around in order to cover Tortola, Norman and JVD.

Hey Coco de mer,
I know that you stayed in Coco de mer last year. My 2 questions to you are- Is the bedroom under the parking area the better of the 5 and does it have an outdoor shower? #2 Are there any pool rafts at the pool? Thanks for your help!

I slept in the Upper West pavilion, which has the best view. All the bedrooms have bathrooms. The bathrooms are with the bedrooms, yes you have to walk outside to go to the opposite end of the house but you dont walk outside to get into the bathroom. Also, there is rafts for the pool. Hope I was of help to you. Next year we are staying in the Peter Bay Beach House, so not sure if we will rent CoCo again just because we like to try something new everytime. Are you looking to rent the house?

Hi-Can you advise where to rent a boat from in St. John. My husband & I have chartered bareboat many times in the BVIs and were very interested in renting something for a few days here. We leave in less than a week. We've tried several powerboat rentals but got the impression they only send you with a captain.

Regards,
Shamrok_gal

Coco,
Thanks for the answers. Yes we have rented coco de mer for July 7-15. By the previous post I think you will be there at the same time but you are at the Westin. We had a group of 8 last year and have been staying at Las Brisas Carib for the last 4 years. We have 10 this year and needed another bedroom. I know that you have been seeking some kind of day trip to BVI. My I suggest the Stormey Petrol or Pirates Penny. We have them booked for 2 days this trip, one day for snorkeling and one day for getting really, really smashed. Next year we are staying at Kismet Villa. I hope you have a really great vacation and maybe we will run into one another. Thanks again, Jorge

Shamrok-gal - We've used Ocean Runner ( http://www.oceanrunner.vi) in the past, but Nauti Nymph ( http://www.st-thomas.com/nautinymph/) is another option. Ocean Runner is out of Cruz Bay; Nauti Nymph is located at the Westin and also at Red Hook.

Hi Coco and Ccase! Darn, we just miss you and your families!! We'll be on St John starting July 2--and at Westin from July 7, departing July 14.
Have a great time--sorry we'll miss you. Our kids are 4, 8, and 10. Looking forward to fun on the beach and at both Westin pools (the big resort one, and the little villa one).
Bon voyage to both of you as you depart on your respecive flights from the city of brotherly love.
