We are looking at renting a vehicle for our vacation in St John. We are staying in a villa on the north side, near Cinnammon Bay. Is 4WD recommended or necessary?

Hello,

Its recommended, however depending on your villa's driveway it might be necessary. Find out from your villa agent what the driveway is like.

If you are interested in beaches like Lameshur Bay, you will need 4wd.

Our group is staying at Hakuna Matata, La Susa, and CoCo de Mar, which I believe are all by Peter Bay on the North side. Do you know anything about any of these? We don't plan on off-roading at all or driving down to the remote beaches on the south side.
Thanks in advance.

I don't get 4wd for off-roading. I get it for traction when the roads get wet. Roads on STJ are very steep and windey and become very slick when wet (and it doesn't take much rain for them to get very slick). We have stayed places where we wanted 4wd because of the driveway, but that's separate.
