Hi, I'm going to St. Thomas in a couple of weeks and I'm training for a half marathon coming up at the end of April. I don't intend to train full out cuz afterall i will be on vacation but i was just wondering if there were any safe not so steep places to get some 5 or 6 mile runs in. We're staying at Bluebeard's Castle and last i heard the gym was closed, so no treadmills i take it. Also, what's the dress code for the bars and clubs on St. Thomas for guys?

Thanks!!

A lot of folks take the route from Havensight Mall to the University of the Virgin Islands and back. Not sure how long it is, you may have to do it a couple times. But it has mostly straight stretches along the waterfront, some slight hills on the way to UVI...

I agree with A. Davis.

Another suggestion might be the road that leads to Magen's Bay past St. Thomas Dairies. This is especially good at dusk. There are only few cars at Magen's Bay then, so there's more space to run. The parking lot is the length of the beach and wide in places, making it a good spot when you have limited areas to run safely on the island. Combine the lot with the lead in-road by the dairies, and I think it will do. I also have seen many people walking daily in this area.

I can't answer your running question, but I can tell you if you're going to "bars" at night, a pair of shorts, a t shirt and flip flops are pretty popular, if you want to get REALLY dressed up, you may want to go for a hawaiin type shirt, shorts and boat shoes. As far as "clubs" go....I don't know if i've ever heard of any clubs. St. Thomas is more of an open air type bar place.

Thanks, I'm probably going to try both of those routes. 13 days!
