In STT, I would suggest Banana Tree Grille. We were there in April for my husband's birthday and it was incredible. I made reservations a week in advance for 6:00p. They were awesome. They decorated the table for his birthday and the view was incredible. Food was excellent.

Check them out at bananatreegrille.com.

The Agave Restaurant, Point Pleasant Resort, East End for dinner...then Molly Malones & Duffy's (Red Hook) afterward.

If you want fine dining I would suggest Herve or Oceana www.oceana.vi

Agave is a good choice too although I've heard some bad reviews lately, and Banana Tree I'm not a fan of because its next to a pool in a resort and the stairs. But I would recommend Room With View a few steps away at the same resort but it is enclosed, A/C and has a great view thus the name. Wine Spectator awards too.

Depends on what kind of dining you are looking for and what kind of atmosphere. Oceana is my fave, pricey but excellent service, food, ambiance, and you are literally at the waters edge.

IMHO Banana Tree Grille hands down. Same chef and owners for over 20 years, consistently excellent food, gorgeous view and impeccable service. Agave has had its ups and downs for years (reviews ditto) as the chefs change.

Stone Terrace has good food & great view-go so you can watch the sunset & ask for front row seating. Not cheap but the food we had was really good. You can then go down to the Beach Bar right across the street and have fun partying.
Panini Beach has great Italian food & is located right near the beach bar--again, ask for a seat against the rail to watch the sunset!
I know there's other places - Zozo's, The Balcony, Bordeaux Mtn. but have not eaten at these places, just visited. Anybody else?

Hi StaceyLucy -

Since you want to party afterwards, I'd recommend a restaurant in Cruz Bay since there will be more nightlife for post dinner.

On our last visit (March) we didn't eat in Cruz Bay much, so our experiences with specific restaurants date back 2 to 4 years. But good bets include:
ZoZos (at Gallows Point... very nice setting, good food & service, excellent view.. This would probably be my first choice)
Stone Terrace (view not quite as good, but still nice)
Asolare (great view & setting, but many feel it's overpriced for what you get... seems a bit snooty, I guess)

I've also heard good things about Morgans Mango but we've never eaten there. Not sure if this would be the restaurant to choose for a "special" night out.

My personal favorite STJ restaurant is Chateau Bordeaux (sp?) up on Bordeaux Mtn., which has a killer view to the EAST so make an early reservation if you choose to make that your "special night out" dinner. Great food and service, but for after dinner night life you'd need to drive the 10-15 minutes back into Cruz Bay or down to Coral Bay.

I have to suggest Equator at the Caneel Bay Resort. The view overlooking the sugar mills and out over to the ocean was amazing. We had reservation to sit on the rail at 6:15pm to watch the sun set. It is also a beautiful resort to take an after dinner stroll. Send me a Private message with your email if you want to see some pictures.

Thanks everyone! We can't wait. Decisions.....Decisions. Would you suggest I make reservations a couple weeks ahead of time at Equator?

The Balcony Restaurant in Cruz Bay has a gorgeous sunset view from their deck, great food, and friendly service. Then you can hop downstairs to the Beach Bar and dance to live music on the beach.

I would give my vote to Zozo's or Asolare. Both have great food and beautiful views of the sun setting over St Thomas. I agree with one poster who said that Asolare seems a little snobby - I got that impression when we dined there last week. There server was great, but the hostess seemed to have a little snooty.

One tip about Asolare though - they seat starting at the railing then work their way into the actual restaurant so get your reservations early. Ours were for 5:45 and we were right beside the railing and had great views of Cruz Bay below and the sunset. Be sure to try the flourless chocolate cake for dessert! As a side note, I would also not recommend trying to walk from Asolare down into town after dark. It doesn't look that far, and it's really not, but the road is very dark. I tripped in a pothole and turned my ankle!

Zozo's was great too. We got there well after the sun set, but still got a set along the railing. The food was very yummy and their staff was very nice. We really enjoyed the antipasta appetizer for 2 (def. feeds more than 2!) - especially the olive tapanade. We asked our server if we could get the recipe, and she did get it for us.
