Is $409 a good price from Washington, D.C., to St. Thomas in early November? Is it ever too early to buy an airline ticket? Should I wait until I find out if American Airlines will merge with USAirways?

Others from the N East and N Central can offer comment but frankly I am always envious of the prices available from your area. Prices from Houston rarely go below $750. So yes, in my opinion your $409 is worth getting now. Heck, you'll have it paid off by November and won't have to worry about getting one later. Is $30-50 worth the anxiety of when to 'pull the trigger'?
Go for it and start thinking of all the other stuff you want/need to do before now and November.

Don't know about November, but we pulled the trigger at $409 for our April trip. I watched fares for a couple months, and they jumped as high at $585 and as low as $409. I booked the direct flight and am thrilled.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

My answer would be Yes! $409.00 is a good fare.

Looking for the "lowest" fare is like trying to time the Market.

We set a maximum price for our ticket and watch the fares until they come down to that number...of course if we're within a few dollars we purchase it anyway.

Spirit Airlines flies out of BWI. Their fares are tough to beat. Most recent search was for $139 one way to St Thomas and $189 back. Check their website. If you see fares that work for you, join their $9 club. Well worth it. Seat selection and bags are extra......

I would wait!. November is low season for airfares too. We went from Hartford to STT last Nov 4-18 and paid under $300 per person rt. American will have deals several times way before November. Download "deal finder" from AA, put in your dates and wait for the best deal.

We got a round trip direct flight from Dulles on United for $333. We actually just returned last week. Normally we pay up to $450. The low fares are out there, but of probably need to be flexible on your travel dates. W typically visit St.John 3-4 times a year.

I'm paying $509 for non-stop out of Dulles in two weeks. I got upgraded seats, so I'm not complaining. You're aware that if you enter "WAS" as the departure city it checks IAD, DCA and BWI, right?

If you are flying from Dulles or National, I think those a good rates. I typically pay between $350 and $450. I have flown spirit air before and it is just cramped, but can be cheaper.
