Please describe the airport in st. thomas. Is it a long walk from the plane to the taxi? Is it primative or new?

Check with your hotel. Some have arrangements with transport companies.

Ric, StX is a hidden secret. Hot dogs and plastic chairs aside, I feel stupid arriving Two hours early for departure for the mainland.

I am sorry that you felt you HAD to tip the server of the punch. You DON"T have to tip the servers like anywhere else on STT or the U S. I spoke to the man that works there that I have known for Donkey years and he said that there is one woman there that does ask for tips. She has been and should be reported to the Tourism Department that runs the booth. The more people complain the quicker she will be gone.

Island Paul,

Perhaps I didn't make my point very well. It wasn't the money, it was the unnecessary rudeness of the woman at the booth that put me off. You mention hospitality. Clearly that word is not understood by this woman, although hospitality is clearly the intent of whomever sponsors the booth.

I spent many years in the hospitality industry myself. I know everyone "has their days" and the attitude of many tourists leaves a lot to be desired (I"m being generous here), but that's the business you're in and you just can't let it show.

Anyway, yes, I was ecstatic to be there again and the rum punch did get me off to a good start!

Thanks for your responding post woogawooga. I understand about the rudeness and would also not appreciate it very much.

The post by r norman notes that you should report the woman (if it was a woman in your case) to the Tourism bureau that runs the booth, as she has been "called" on her unacceptable behavior in the past.

Interesting postings on STT Airport. Over the last two years I have made more than 15 trips to build a St. John house. Yes, it is hot and your tired when you arrive. The first thing you must do is RELAX you are now on island time. Yes, your bags will be lost on some occasions - don't worry they generally show up the next day. Besides, why are you checking bags anyway? Only need shorts, a couple of tee shirts, bathing suit and flip flops!

You want to get through in a hurry when going home. "No problem" Just give your luggage to the cart person in front and wave a $10 bill! Often they will not only get all your possessions through customs very quick but on occasion actually go behind the counter and print out your boarding pass while the 60 people standing in line glare at you!

We used Dynamic Tours to pick us up and take us to Red Hook. I'm sure they do the same for those staying ON St. Thomas. It was a wonderful service. We paid 40$pp/round trip. Not sure if that is a set price, or just a set price to Red Hook. Here's the link: http://dynamictoursvi.com/reservations.html
