I have 2 important alcohol-related questions:

1) How much does Cruzan run in STT?

2) What is the best Painkiller Recipe? I have 2oz dark rum; 2 oz pineapple juice; 1 oz orange juice; 1 oz coconut milk.

I think the best prices are at the airport, duty free, but I'm sure there's other places as well. Your recipe looks like a homerun to me. I like Pusser's rum better than Cruzan; more body/flavor. It's a little more expensive, so I usually stick with Cruzan. Don't forget the fresh grated nutmeg on top! It's key!

The 1.75 liter bottle of Cruzan is $7 something the last time I bought it. The best liquor price is an elusive goal because different stores often have specials. Generally, K-Mart and Cost U Less have the best prices.

Can't help with the pain killer recipe.

Very convenient to pick it up at the airport when you get there. Cruzan was about 8.00. Also, on your way back home you can call ahead, order your liquor and they will pack it up for you. Really nice people in there. You also have to bring back at least one bottle of VI rum/aka Cruzan.

WOW...When I lived in STX, Cruzan rum was $1.50 a bottle at Woolworth
but then again that was WAY BACK in 1982

One correction that no one caught on the recipe, Not coconut milk, but cream of coconut such as Coco Lopez.

We prefer Captain Morgan but stumbled on to Paradise Virgin Islands Rum (I think that was the name). The dark/gold versus the light rum we used for pina coladas, pain killers, .....a very good all-purpose rum. At $7.95 per one of those very large jugs/plastic bottles, it was a real bargain and we liked the flavor better than Cruzan. And yes. Coco Lopez. I am embarrased to say how many cans of cream of coconut and coconut milk we have in our cupboard......still dancing to the Brittany tune of "Oops I did it again".

The prices were definately cheaper at K-Mart but more convinent at the airport. The airport was only 1.00 more and they bubble wrap it and put it in the box right there and then you bring it to baggage claim where they tag it, etc. (Make sure you go to Duty Free shop BEFORE getting on line to check in.)

We lucked out...one girl was wrapping and one was ringing up the purchase, when I got home I noticed she didn't ring up one bottle that was in my box!

Anyone ever heard of "Sailor Jerry's"? It's a cherry flavored spiced rum, out of the VI's. Not really my cup of tea, but I can understand how people could like it. Plus, it's a higher "proof". More bang for your buck, I guess.

Bringing alcohol back to US states: what is best way to do this?
Pack in checked luggage or if bought at airport and they bag it, will airlines allow this to be carried on?

You can bring back six bottles as long as one of them is locally made (ie Cruzan rum). At all the liquor stores and kmart they have six-pack cardboard boxes that you can load up and check in--can't carry on because of liquid restrictions.

If you are flying American, you can check in your liquor box for FREE, with NO checked bag fees--the VI government lobbied American to give a waiver since our liquor sales are so important for the territory and actually won!

Liquor has to be checked. All the supermarkets provide the boxes and they're very sturdy, almost never hear of anyone having as problem. Cheers!

I don't think you can bring back any 150 proof liquor.

Probably more combustible than the jet fuel!

The best liquor prices on STT are at either CostULess (Market Square East) or Plaza Xtra (Tutu Park Mall) and they both beat KMart prices all the time! I think a lot of visitors just assume that because they "know" the KMart name and because most liquor here is much less expensive than stateside, they're drawn there. KMart's prices are high in comparison to the aforementioned stores and their selection is also very limited in comparison.

Beachboy is correct that you can't take back the 150 proof. To me it tastes worse than I imagine jet fuel tastes and reminds me of the bathtub concoction which friends of mine in Connecticut used to make years ago. Sniff and barf. Drink and churn. Cheers!

Cruzan does make a120 proof version that is legal for air shipment for those of us back here in Connecticut who enjoy an occasional sip of jet fuel. LOL.

Amen...then they would have a sale for 151 proof for 99 cents. Those were the days.
