What would you do in the last leg of your life?

I'm not looking at it as my last leg. I don't feel 50. I may not be as strong as I was 20 years ago, but I know I'm stronger then alot of other 50 year olds. That being said, I always thought that we would make a move south to Florida for at least 6 mos of the year. We have a condo about 30 miles south of Atlantic City and it would be a perfect place for the Summer. Sell the house here and buy something for the winter months.

Things don't always work out in our dreams. My daughter (28) is still with us after losing her fiance in an accident. I can't leave her because we're very close and I feel she would be alone. My Mother is very sick right now, so I'm glad we're still here to help out. That's what I have to do.

So, we take trips twice a year just to recharge. I can live with that. I'm lucky to have a good husband and good friends and I guess the most important thing is to be happy with what you have no matter what age you have. Life just has too many twists and turns for most people to make those definitive plans.

The only thing that really want to do before I feel too old (whatever that means) would be to take a sailing trip through the BVI's. We're planning for that and will probably do that for our 35th Anniversary.

My wife and I are 51 and probably enjoying life more than ever! This year will be our 30 anniversary and to celebrate there will be a 3 day walk to support the elimination of cancer instead of our annual trip.

Last week was a Willy T's jump from the top rail. Not sure either one of us would have done it at 35.

Enjoy life and appreciate where you have been and where you may go...

Sunrise in a sailboat in the BVI
Sunset in Santorini
Tapas in Marbella
floating with the turtles in Waterlemon
the sight of morning fog over the Shenandoah River from a sleeping bag
the sound of coal trains rumbling through the mountains
the smiles of our childern
Waking up with some one you love
..... these are few of my favorite things.....

Give everyone a hug and everyone will re-energize you

Go buy a Dave Mathews Live at Red Rocks
and start singing

"I can't believe that we would
Lie in our graves
Wondering if we had
Spent our living days well
I can't believe that we would
Lie in our graves
Dreaming of things that we
Might have been"
DM

And of course a week in STT or STJ to plan out the next 50!

Well I am almost 40. My wife and I were talking about retirement in the next 40 years:S last night.
We started looking at sailboats *-) Well anyway, we have a daughter who is nine with Down Syndrome and we fully expect her to be with us for the next 150 years which is way to awesome. We have dreams of learning to sail, kicked back off in a bay of STJ, even if it is overpopulated, in a 46'. Watching our daughter stare at the sunset and rumble around as only she can with the pure innocence of life. Listening to David Gray " Life in Slow Motion".
And yes a full collection of Dave Matthews. TomB enjoyed your post.

I turn forty and my husband turns fifty this year. Saying that this is the "last leg" of our lives was not quite what I ment. I was feeling a little melecholy last night. Thanks for all of the sweet posts from everyone. After two decades of marriage and having the children starting to move on and move out, I feel a new begining happening in our lives. A little scary, a little exciting. After years of working and
child rearing we are finally in a position to be a little selfish and do things that we want to do. We keep gravitating back to St. Thomas because it has been our own private getaway. I know that this is a travel forum, but I figured that this would also be a place to post where so many of us with adventurous hearts also have a love of the Islands.

It's a little funny that after being so locked in in life with all of the obligations of work and family I am ready for an adventure. I love hearing from others that these are the best years.

Thanks, you've made my day.

My husband bought me a 2 BR condo on STT for my 60th birthday last year! We spent last summer puling out and installing a new kitchen and now we are ready to enjoy "Island Time". We have been vacationing and time sharing on STT for over 35 years and now we are settling down for some serious limin'. See you all there! We are never too old.......wish I knew how to insert a photo...*-)

Pooh...if you don't mind me asking, where did you buy on STT. We'll be there in May again, along with 10 others. Hope to see Sherri there and maybe even "you guys".

To answer your question, we bought a 2BR condo in Mahogany Run overlooking Hans Lollick Island and with a million dollar view of the BVI's. If I knew how to post pics I would show you but if you go to myspace.com/Poohwear and look at my slideshow you can see the view from the main terrace. It has 3 terraces, 2 baths and a brand new kitchen. Enclosed parking too right under the unit. Each building has three condos, we are the "upper".
