Hello everyone!!

I was wondering if anyone has flown AA lately, and if so have you had any trouble with the size of your carry-ons? I had a friend fly out of JFK recently, and she was given trouble about the size of her carry-ons which weren't big at all! I will be flying out of Seattle and then JFK both on AA, so if you have had or seen anything about this issue please help!

Thank you all for your time.

Pink

Hi Pink
The last time I flew AA I had no trouble with my carry on. They do have restrictions on size & weight. I have seen people carry on luggage that couldn't fit into over head or under seats some due too big or because of the wheels on them. But check out this web site it should help you out. http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/woman-passes-out-after-disney-ride/20060711082809990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

I have flown in and out of STT 3 times in the last 45 days on AA. One thing to keep in mind is all the Airlines are having a record setting summer and occupancy rates on these planes are high. With planes full they have to enforce the carry on size and the weight limit for checked baggage. You won't have any problem with your carry on if you use common sense. Try not to be that schmuck that lugs a big bag on board and then spends five minutes trying to squeeze it into the overhead.

We flew American in April with no problems, hassles, etc. There were a few people who had carry on luggage that I thought "no way, that's huge!" but nobody said a word.

If you're flying throught San Juan, definitely try to carry it all on. San Juan is like the black hole for luggage (and contents of luggage), in my experience and from what I have also heard from others..

My husband and I recently flew with AA, Chicago to STT with a layover in San Juan. We narrowly avoided having to check in my carryon enroute. Mainly, I pleaded with the personnel in San Juan. My luggage is standard sized. I had NO trouble fitting it into the overhead. I was VERY glad to avoid baggage claim in STT.

We were not so lucky on our return trip. Again, in San Juan, we were forced to check in luggage at the gate, but this time they were after my husband's luggage. Our luggage has been on many trips. We've never had these problems before. Unfortunately, we had to waste time in Chicago getting my husband's suitcase. At least, it was on the way back.

We flew AA out of JFK on June 15 and carried on a good sized mesh snorkel bag. No one said a word. It fit no problem, but it was bigger than what we would normally try to carry on.

Hello again......

I am flying direct from NY, so San Juan won't be a problem. I had heard the horror stories about luggage there and opted to pay a little extra to fly direct.

ByRequest1- Did you also bring a personal item?

Thanks to everyone for the input. I am flying with mostly fragile items and my carry-ons can NOT be checked, so I am trying to make sure the sizes are correct. They meet the size standard posted on the AA website, however since my friend had a problem with smaller sizes I am nervous. Thanks again for all the help!

You shouldn't have a problem. However, if the plane is full and they run out of space in the overhead bins you might be screwed, unless of course, you can fit it underneath the seat in front of you.
