We are going to St John for a week in October and have booked through RCI at Sunset Ridge Villa. We read from one post that these villas are in bad shape. We would like to hear from someone that has stayed there to see if all Units are the same or have some been renovated. We are staying in Unit "B". Thanks for any info.

can't be sure that unit b has been up dated. They are not in that bad of shape. Yes could use some up dating but not that bad. THe units are huge i think 2700 square feet wit a sitting pool and large balcony. They are located way up on top of a mountian over looking Cruz Bay. Plan on sitting at the pool each night and watch the sunset, in my opion the best sunset views on the island. On clear nights you can St. criox.

Have Fun wish i was there

ps rent a jeep you will see more of what the island has to offer.

Thanks for your info Mike. I think I wont care even if the villa is not that great because staying in St John for a week is worth it even if I had to camp out. I love the island and its beauty.

Maria-
My husband & I are timeshare owners at Sunset Ridge & we chose Unit B because of the wonderful views & the "villas" themselves. There are only 6 units so it is usually very quiet & most of the time in the afternoons you'll have the pool to yourself. The units have been redone within the past year or two, repainted, cabinets replaced, new things put in, etc. They are not in poor shape as you had heard. Its close to Cruz Bay (definitely can't walk it though!!). Powie, the maintenance guy, lives in the house right behind the units & is very helpful should you need him. Enjoy - we're headed there for Christmas & New Years!!

Judy's right. You can't walk it but.... I have. Both up and down. I arrived to the island on Christmas Day one visit and the car rental place was closed. Try and get a taxi to take you up Jacob's Ladder at night to Sunset Ridge and you'll learn how many ways they can tell you "no". So, I walked it. In the morning I walked down to Cruz Bay to pick up my rental. Another time, on New Year's Eve, my rental got a flat at the foot of Jacob's Ladder. I left the car there and hoofed it up to Sunset Ridge.

Bottom line? Rent a car!

Thanks Judy for the info. I feel better now. We are going there October 15th for a week. This will be our first time staying in St John. We have been there before but only while on cruises. We are going to rent a Jeep when we get there. Is the drive to the villa really steep? We are so excited and can't wait to go.

rkurpier, thanks for your info. I cant believe you walked from the villa to Cruz Bay as it sounds like its quite a steep climb. I am planning on renting a Jeep when we get there. We are arriving on a Saturday afternoon. What company did you use to the Jeep rental?

Maria,

I have rented from Conrad Sutton for the past 15 years or so. You can get a 10% discount if you reserve via their website. www.conradcars.com

I'd also like to confirm what Judy stated. I have also stayed in Unit B - I think it's been 3 or 4 times (thanks Judy). The last time, just this past Christmas, I was witness to the results of the work that has been done to improve the villas. You'll find the unit to be very clean and more than adaquate for a nice stay. They are not air-conditioned, so it can get a little warm during the day. However there are fans everywhere and given the altitude of the place you'll find evenings to be quite comfortable.

Speaking of altitude, yes, the climb to the villas are quite steep. Don't fret though, by the 2nd or 3rd day you'll be pros at navigating Jacob's Ladder (the name of the hill on which Sunset Ridge villas sit).
