We are having a family cruise in Jan. 06. and would like to arrange a snorkel trip from the ship for half a day for just the 18 of us, ages range from 5 and up (way up). Any ideas as to whom we could contact would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

Mike: With 18 people, you could charter an entire safari. Negotiate a price for the day and I'll bet you'll do better than the ship tours! Perhaps a good stop would be Coral World/Coki Beach. The non-snorkelers can feed the sting rays, pet the baby sharks, watch the seahorses and turtles, while the others snorkel! Do the snorkelers have their own equipment?

You have quite a crew traveling together (or at least trying to stay together). I would concnetrate on STT rather than trying to get that many over to STJ. You will have to commandeer 2-3 taxi vans to get anywhere anyway and trying to do that on both islands sounds like too much work for any vacation.

I suggest you take everyone to Coki Point. The beach is excellent and offers something for all ages/interests. There are numerous shops, eateries and bars for the adults, sand, water and sea life for snorkelers and for those not wanting to get wet there is Coral World which takes you into the underworld without getting wet.

I you do want to make the STJ trip, Trunk Bay is wonderful. Although it has services, it is not as developed as Coki. That is its charm but could also be a short coming for such a diverse group as yours. 🙂

The safari East Ender refers to is an open air van/truck converted to accomodate many passengers. A great way to get a 'feel' for the island.

Chris, Thanks for the advice. My wife remembers Meaghans Beach about 25 years ago. She could rent snorkel gear there, which is what we would need. Do they still do that there? and do they rent snorkel gear at Coki Point? Can I pre book or do we just show up and would be able to get looked after? mike

Magens is a beautiful beach for sunning and swimming but not as nice for snorkeling. It offers rentals as well but I would still recommend Coki given the wide variation in ages of your group and the availability of Coral World. They kids (and adults) will really enjoy it.
