I know you can't collect shells but saw in the beach book that a couple of beaches were great for beachcombing.....exactly what do you beachcomb for? Can you collect seaglass?

From what I understand, you only can't collect shells from any of the national park beaches. The other beaches are okay. All of the North Shore Beaches are national park, so those are off limits. Here is a link to a map that shows the national park bounderies.

Here's an article from March 2006 that addresses why shells are frequently confiscated at our airport:

We've found seaglass at Francis Bay and also found quite a bit sifting through the coral on the beach at Lameshur. You might find a piece or two at Hawksnest, too.

Verna, try Frank Bay. You can park at Gallows and walk down. There's no beach there, just rocks. I found seaglass there.

Verna, Kurt - we leave Sat. morning too!

Verna, can't believe you're already packed 🙂 I'm still here at work, off tomorrow tho' & will pack then - after laundry tonite!

Our flight leaves NJ at 9:30 am - we should arrive around 1:30 or so. What time are you arriving?

I'm the one with short red spiky hair, with husband & 10 yr. old son in tow 🙂

Say "hi" if you run into us. Maybe we'll see you at Woody's or Skinny's.

Aaaaahhhh, this day is going to go so-o-o-o-o slow!!!

I got quite a few pieces of sea glass on Pineapple Beach (STT) of all places! I feel that by me picking it up, I'm helping clean the beach, since sea glass is trash after all. 😉 I found clear, green and amber colors.

Dragonlover.....

We fly out of Charlotte Saturday at 10:30 and arrive at 1:16. You'll most likely run into Judy and me at Skinny's. I always wear my ratty, old Yuengling Lager cap while vacationing on St John.

Can't wait until I get that welcome punch at the airport....always makes the start of vacation official!!!!

lip - we're from Clifton (about 14 miles outside of NYC) flying out of Newark, NJ

Kurt, we'll look for you at Skinny's. I'm the one with the spiky red hair - altho' it might be a different color by then 🙂 Hubby John will be the one in the laid-back coma & son Zach will be the one growing gills & fins, since I won't be able to get him out of the water 🙂

Funny 🙂 yea, John really needs a week of doing nothing - he's an elementary school teacher (5th grade) in NYC. After 9 mos. of that, he's ready to be in a comatose state for the entire summer!!!

I also teach 5th grade and we do need lots of rest and relaxation after 9 months of inner city darlings!!

Less than 48 hours and I will be on the beach in STJ!
