Which island? On St. John, I think Caneel would be the best choice.

On St. Croix, the Buccaneer, no question. www.thebuccaneer.com.

I second Caneel on St John. A little rich, but heck...you only get married once?

Amen to Chris! That's exactly what we thought when we were booking our room at Caneel for our honeymoon. Got married on STJ too. We stayed in a premium beachfront room and now I think I'm spoiled for life!!

Certainly the recommendations of the Buccaneer and Caneel are hard to argue with and TMM are the best choices on STJ and STX, USVI might not have the "best honeymoon" places. I shudder to say it , but other islands might have what I would consider more honeymoonish. Of course it depends on your interests, but both of the recommended places are pretty sedate. If you are looking for more flash or a more intimate place, other islands might have better options.

KathyRich: What are your expectations and requirements for a honeymoon hotel? To some people the neighborhood Howard Johnson's is just fine. To others, a private island is not enough!

Caneel does have the reputation of honeymoon hotel- "the newly wed and the nearly dead" as the say! But it is definitely for those who want to curl up away from the madding crowd. If you need entertainment, other than your new spouse, you might want to go elsewhere.

Another wonderful honeymoon idea is a crewed yacht charter. A different quiet anchorage each night. Private dinners made just for the two of you. Days at your own pace. Ahh, bliss to me! But again, not for everyone!

If you are looking to get totally away and have the benefit of some help with the cost then I would recommend Peter Island Resort or Little Dix resort both in the BVI. Both offer privacy and luxury and once you arrive there is nothing to do but relax and enjoy your new marriage.
If you are looking for a lot of excitement then neither of these selections would be good for you.

If you guys like to be in the middle of the action downtown at night and want to enjoy the beaches and boats during the day I would suggest Gallows Point on St John. The rooms are very large and very nice. It is located 2 minutes from Cruz Bay so all your restaurants and night life are walking distance but it isn't right in the heart of a town. It is also a bit expensive, but it is where we put our parents when they come to visit so it is very nice.

Otherwise the best Honeymoon island I can think of is Virgin Gorda. All the hotels up there are small 2-10 room establishments that know how to take care of their guests. Many have private pools and almost any place you book will have a fantastic view of the BVI islands because of the shape of VG (narrow). It has great beaches, some interesting places to explore (more than just the Baths), and super friendly locals.

STT : Ritz
STJ : Caneel
STX : not sure

Above all resorts : private villas - smaller ones that cater to privacy

You need to decide what you really want from your honeymmon. We were just there a month ago and had a wonderful time on St. Thomas. Even though we stayed on St. Thomas we fell in LOVE with St. John. After an action packed wedding we were ready for relaxation & quiet drinks in the pool. You need to considerr all of that when you decide on the perfect spot.

Most of all - ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!!

blessings to you both

Jen

OK....thanks for the opinions 🙂
My father has a timeshare and tentatively booked Elysian Beach for us.
I wou;dn't say we need tons of action but is there ANYTHING to do there?
What kind of nightlife is there? And do we take cabs there?

The Elysian is on Cowpet Bay which is the home of three restaurants and the St Thomas Yacht Club. My favorite of the three is Robert's- great food and a terrific piano bar. Bonnie's is more casual and right on the beach. Arthur's is a bit of a walk, over at the Anchorage. The yacht club is somewhere in between. The Ritz is next door (walking distance the other way) if you really want to spend some money.

Nightlife on the bay is pretty much confined to those places. But Red Hook is not too far away and will have you partying until the wee hours, if you wish. Plenty of bars and restaurants for all. There are cabs available from the Elysian, check the fares on this site. All cab fares are per person, not per ride, and can add up quickly.
