First, let me say that this is a great website!

I am planning a trip to the USVI for next summer ( I know, I plan WAY ahead - but the anticipation is a part of the fun of travel)

I am a snorkeling fanatic but I will be traveling solo on this trip, so for the sake of safety, I would like to join organized boat snorkel tours around St. John and tours to the BVI. I will be staying on St. Thomas. I have been to St. Thomas before and have taken the ferry over to St. John to do a snorkel trip.

What are the best boat snorkel tours from St. John? Do any stop at Watermelon Caye or any of the other interesting bays around the island?

As far as the BVI, what boats go to both the Caves and the Indians during the same trip? I do not want to go on a party boat - I do not spend hours at a bar. My number one priority is snorkeling.

Thanks

Hello mantaraye

We used Wayward Sailor out of Cruz Bay with Captain Phil. It's a 6 passemger 1/2 or full day sale and Phil takes you to various places based on the group interest. He tool us out to Lovongo Cay (just north of STJ) and the snorkeling was great. Phil is also really interested in making the trip intersting to everyone and spend the time explaining what to look for, etc.

You might want to consider one of the charters out of Red Hook since you are staying on STT. That saves time having to deal with the ferry early in the morning and after a long day.

PS
Planning this far in advance is not as crazy as you think.

You might look into www.fantasydaysail.com with Pam Heath or sailwinifred.com with Sharon Allen. Also New Horizons does trips to the Baths and Virgin Gorda, as well as snorkel trips. You won't go wrong with either of these.

My adult kids don't have their passports. If we go on one of these trips, can they use their birth certificate and driver's license?

You do not need a passport to visit the BVI's from USVI's until 2008 IF you arrive by water but you will need a Birth Certificate with a raised seal and Drivers License.

nevermind i just called and read up on this and you do not need a passport, you can still use a drivers license and a birth certificate that has a raised seal on it.
