Hi all,

If you get a chance to share St. John Virgin Island best restaurants (and even specific favorite dishes if you have them), I'd be much obliged! Also, we hope to stock up on groceries when we arrive in Cruz Bay by ferry, in order to cook at home some and save money (this is for our honeymoon week in June) - do you recommend an affordable and well-stocked grocery store?

Your responses will be great help as I work to gain familiarity with the island... Thanks!

There are two really good grocery stores in Cruz Bay. There is Starfish Market which is a fully loaded grocery store complete with meat and seafood counter. You can find all of your provisions there. In the same complex as Starfish Market is Starfish Gourmet (right across the hall from the Market) here you will find all the beer, wine, liquors, and champagnes you'll need along with an amazing selection of great cheeses. The grocery store I'd recommend is the Dolphin Market, it's newly expanded and like Starfish it has everything you'll need. Most of their meats and seafood are frozen at this store but everything else you'll need you can find here as well. One place I would highly recommend is the "Fish Trap", it's also in Cruz Bay and they are a restaurant but they have a seafood market where you can by local fish, we always make it a point to stop there once or twice during our stay on STJ.

We just spent a month in the islands part on STJ and the other part on Jost Van Dyke and Anegada.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions. This was our 7th year in a row going to STJ

Jill (or anyone else),

Are there any roadside produce stands on St. John. I'm particularly interested in finding locally grown hot chile peppers when I'm there in May.

Thanks, Tom

Although I have not checked them out yet I have read of Josephine's Greens. I understand that she sells locally grown herbs and vegetables. I understand that her market is in the Coral Bay area. On the road past Love City Mini Mart up the hill.

We visited Josephine's on our last two trips. The produce was wonderful and organic (which we loved). Go earlier in the day as she sold out of a lot of greens early. The prices were reasonable too!

Agree with ncsusan - wonderful produce at Josephines. We were there everyother day during our 10 day stay. I believe she sells to the local restuarants as well as to any customer that shows up at her nursery. We were fortunate to meet her and her daughter (who was home on college break). Wonderful family!!!

Definitely make the trek to Coral Bay and have brunch (or whatever, it's all good) at Miss Lucy's, sits right on the water and the colors of the water are absolutely stunning. There is a new mexican restaurant in Cruz Bay, Cactus on the Blue, kind of down by the Beach Bar but across the road (if that makes sense). We had a great dinner there a few weeks back, and really good sangria.
For grocery stores, Dolphin Market is great, a bit pricey, but hey you are on St. John! If you are getting a rental car in STT, you can always stock up on your groceries here and take them over on the ferry with you. Prices are a bit cheaper here.
