I was wondering if anyone has any opinions about when the best time is for a wedding on the beach on STJ.... Taking into consideration: weather, cost, etc. Just curious- though we are not engaged yet (this spring, I think) I wanted to start my research. 🙂

Thanks!

Hi New Englander,

Congratulations in advance! I think November would be a great time to have a wedding here (I live on STT -- so I say "here" to also include St. John)

The weather in November is sublime -- hurricane season has passed, the rains are mostly over, and the cool breezes are starting to blow in. Also the crowds are minimal and many of the villas, resort and hotels are still offering their "low season" rates.

JMHO, and perhaps some of my fellow posters will have some other suggestions for you.

Good luck with your plans :)!

I second the "Shoulder" season. We got married at Cinnamon Bay on Dec 9 and the weather was perfect. Cheaper rooms, less crowded, etc. Feel free to ask more detailed questions, maybe I can help 🙂

Good luck and GO PATS

I had to laugh when you mentioned that you are not yet engaged, because I had a lot of my wedding planned (in my head) before I was engaged too 🙂
I recommend the month of June. It's off season, so accommodations will be cheaper. The island is less crowded than it would be during season, so if you're getting married on a beach you don't have to worry about a ton of people you don't know being around. I chose June for my wedding also b/c of younger family member's schedules...I wanted to make sure they'd be out of school and able to come down. The weather in June is nice...hotter than November/December, but less likely to rain, and not as sweltering as August/September.
And I'm sure you'll continue to get more recommendations...in the end, it comes down to your own personal preference. Congratulations!

I figure that the more planning/research I do now, the better prepared I'll be if we decide to try to plan something in a short time frame. Since STJ isn't a place that you can just "stop by" and check out vendors, etc. I'll see what sort of recommendations I get and go from there.

Thanks for the suggestions- keep 'em coming!

The shoulder seasons are a good idea, but don't think you can't run into bad weather in November. The first year we lived on STX, 2003, we had 26" of rain in November.

late Oct, Nov, before Dec 15 and June - good bets!

After Dec 15 is expensive (high season) thru April.
May is rainy.

June is befor the heat really gets up there, but after the rainy May.

July, Aug and Sept are hot, hot, hot and humid - and hurricane season.

No guarantees, as you know. But, best bets....

We're planning a November 13th wedding on St. John and we were wondering if this is a good time of year? We were concerned about rain with a beach wedding in November. Is it still rainy/hurricane season?

Hurricane rhyme -

June -- too soon.
July -- stand by.
August -- look out you must.
September -- remember.
October -- all over

Nothing for November - it is well over by then!
